How trite of old Albert to lay an example for modern liberals of "intellectual elitism" by implying that only the "more naive" would be religious in the traditional sense. My aunt and uncle are both UT educated microbiologists/virologists with masters degrees...devout Christians. In many ways she, my aunt, played a big part in leading me to Christ by always being a great Christian lady and being so pleasant and successful. They both retired around 60yo..and worked the last several years mostly because they wanted to, they didnt need the money. She is 1 of the few people who can school me in jeopardy and scrabble, with an extremely broad base of knowledge as well as a great vocabulary. Having seen, learned, and taught evolution on a micro scale daily never made them question their faith...in fact it strengthened it. They do not believe in pseudoscience like abiogenesis...nor agree with it being lumped in under the blanket term "evolution" . That is a modern atheist ploy to smuggle that which is purely fiction, life coming from lifeless matter , in under the umbrella term for a science which can be tested, demonstrated, repeated, such as micro evolution. Saying that living things came from a primordial soup of proteins is so far away from being real science that one might as well say the flying spaghetti monster showed up and waved his magic wand over the "soup" to give it life. However, if one has the faith to believe in that which cannot ever be seen or demonstrated...not God but abiogenesis , they will be accepted by most intellectuals as normal. If one has that same faith in what atheist would call "a God with no proof" they are roundly mocked by the same intellectuals who actually share the same basic belief system...faith in the unseen...but will never, ever admit it. See, faith is a dirty word to the irreligious, though their beliefs require a healthy dose of it. Whats the word for criticizing something that others do, while doing it yourself?? Oh yeah, hypocrisy. We all believe...just in different things.
