Squirrel is leaving???

You’re right, but without any restrictions, how does a school build a team? Even the NFL has a little ability to do that, with contracts and trades. Maybe some sort of system like that needs to be implemented. I don’t know.
As far as the criticism goes, I think that’s a fans right. Now calling them out in a mean spirited way (like picking on a personal trait, or their family) is beyond the pale…..but still allowed. I wouldn’t do that, but it’s just part of the world, and having expectations. It happens to us in the civilian world.
But I do believe there is less loyalty, across the board, in society and sports nowadays. At least as compared to 20-30 years ago.
We're not far off from agreement. Right now, the players are holding all the cards which is some "poetic justice" for the schools holding all the cards for a long time.

Nobody should hold all the cards.

The problem of amateur status. Most of us will miss that. Most of us wanted to believe that the players were committed to the team, even in the face of knowing but not acknowledging that players were getting money from boosters or they'd be playing at Alabama or Georgia.

When a system is corrupt so long and ignored, chaos happens when it crumbles. We see it all the time in governments. A coup happens and everything is exposed but there's nobody "clean" to take over "pull things together" because dog eat dog corruption is all anyone knows.

The NCAA really is that way. Without the tight fist on the players and the selective ignoring of payments to those players, no one knows how to act in this new situation.

I really see it imploding soon. I just can’t see the system holding up.
When I played high school ball, I only had offers from NAIA and D-III schools. I couldn’t weigh the benefits of paying tons of money to go to school (because there were no full rides), and going to Pennsylvania or Ohio to do so…..so I just went to school. But I’ve always romanticized about that level of play. Where guys went to a school, stayed 4 years, and often paid for most of it, just for the love of playing. But I know a lot of that was just a fairy tale too, and was obviously never true in the higher levels.
For me it’s just the disappointment of a deflated ideology. (Childish thinking on my part)

I don't dispute any of those stats. Those are a product of being on the field for 3 years. With all those receptions, where does he rank in TD? Maybe top 20? Not sure. A player in the top 5 of receptions is not in the top 20 of TD. That's the telling stat for me. He struggled to catch the ball this year. He leaves his feet for no reason to catch the ball. He's undersized and gets very little yards after contact and hardly gets used in the end zone. I guess the coaches feel the same way. He's replaceable and not worth a pay bump. Not saying he's not a hard worker, not committed and cannot play.
I believe once this offense gets back to throwing with consistency, many receivers will move up the charts, particularly if they are 3 years starters or heavy contributors.
I'm hoping the exodus of most of the receivers gives us the same results as the DB room last year. Bru has not been the same since his injury and Thornton had 1 year of decent ball. It's time to reshuffle the chips and deal a new hand.
Jason Witten had 7 TDs over his UT career.. Despite catching a tremendous amount of balls over 16 game seasons, Wes Walker averaged 4-5 TDs in a pass heavy offense.

I haven't seen a lot of schemes where guys work the middle the field and get in the end zone a lot. I certainly haven't seen it with Josh's scheme even at its best.

If we upgrade over Squirrel that will be fantastic, that new player will likely be in the record books at UT.
