Squirrel is leaving???

Squirrel falls down immediately when he catches a ball, then gets up hurt. After my dinner conversation with my wife I understand some of his attraction. She said, oh no Squirrel is leaving. My son said, really it's not much of a loss. Then, my wife said I really like his name. Ughh....

The guy had 30 catches And 2 TD. TE get that much.
This should not be a hard upgrade to find 30 catches and 2 TD with zero yards after contact
So you don't think him playing hurt with a struggling QB had any bearing? He just suddenly got a lot worse than tte sophomore player that had 800+ yards last year?

Over a third of our completions went to non WRs. That percentage seemed to go up dramatically after the cupcake portion of the schedule was over.

We didn't have a single player on this team with 40 catches this year. Bru had 39 and many of those were the tried and true "catch it at the LOS and see how many tackles you can break" play.

I would take a Squirrel White type player on my team every season. A kid that plays hurt, goes over the middle and tries his best on every play.

I agree with almost everything you said but I think we can recruit/sign a player exactly like that with more talent. Squirrel was a 3 star-i believe we can get more talent and production out of that position

He is 7th is school history in receptions and played back to back seasons with inaccurate first year starters.

His 67 receptions last year was tied for 8th most in school history.

In three years he had more yardage than Thornton or Bru had in 4 years.

He is 57 receptions away from being UTs all time leader in receptions..

If we sign a player that is more productive in this offense that will be amazing. I can't wait to see what he does

I don't dispute any of those stats. Those are a product of being on the field for 3 years. With all those receptions, where does he rank in TD? Maybe top 20? Not sure. A player in the top 5 of receptions is not in the top 20 of TD. That's the telling stat for me. He struggled to catch the ball this year. He leaves his feet for no reason to catch the ball. He's undersized and gets very little yards after contact and hardly gets used in the end zone. I guess the coaches feel the same way. He's replaceable and not worth a pay bump. Not saying he's not a hard worker, not committed and cannot play.
I believe once this offense gets back to throwing with consistency, many receivers will move up the charts, particularly if they are 3 years starters or heavy contributors.
I'm hoping the exodus of most of the receivers gives us the same results as the DB room last year. Bru has not been the same since his injury and Thornton had 1 year of decent ball. It's time to reshuffle the chips and deal a new hand.

I don’t think anything is off. It’s our worse position group on the roster and our WRs with the most potential are still here. Feels like we’re just overhauling the position like we did with DBs last year.
Well in the immortal words of Widespread Panic “Lets Get The Show on The Road”. This has been all subtraction and no addition. Even though some of it has been addition by subtraction.

Maybe some that actually WANT to be at UT. I’ll ride with them.
Do you SERIOUSLY think that some of the better athletes we've had at UT JUST wanted to be at UT and weren't being paid under the table?

Seriously? You believe that most elite athletes haven't been getting money to attend a school for years and years?

It's obvious that within DAYS of NIL being an above board way of recruiting some athletes became millionaires to play at a certain school.

Within days of the rules of being changed by the courts to allow multiple transfers without penalty, athletes began transferring wholesale.

Did athletes POOF! change overnight to no longer be loyal or non-mercenary or were they being prevented from openly making money and prevented from easily transferring?

It's obvious. It was forced loyalty.

Yeah I’d be nice to add someone. There’s another portal season in the spring but hopefully we don’t 100% rely on that. Seems risky

He chose to play at Tenn at a time Vols were down. I dont believe he was used in a way that utilized all of his ability as he should've had a few packages. Played hurt all year but still a solid receiver. He's good enough to play in the NFL.

Ok.
I do think some good/great players wanted to be here, but I’m not so naive to think that many weren’t being paid. I’m old enough to remember the SMU death penalty days. I’m just saying that some, like Jajuan Jennings and others, actually liked playing at UT. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe he was paid too, I don’t know.
But people, players, employees, society as a whole is markedly less loyal these days. That’s just my opinion from experience. Again, just my opinion. Already been called a stupid MF’er this morning for stating opinion…..which is what (I thought) everyone was doing on here.
But you’re right. Loyalty has been dying for years….and now it’s full obituary has been penned.

I'm just stating the obvious. I've zero doubt Jennings was paid AND enjoyed playing at UT. It was good for both UT and Jennings.

Lots of work situations ARE good for the company and the employee. When the company finds a better employee fit or more talent or better pay situation OR the employee finds a better fit for his life, a better situation for his family, or more money for a similar job...... changes are made and it's good that everyone has that choice.

Athletes didn't have many choices for decades and that created an illusion of loyalty. IMMEDIATELY upon them having choices, we see all kinds of complaints from fans that they are disloyal now. They aren't less loyal, they are less restricted.

You’re right, but without any restrictions, how does a school build a team? Even the NFL has a little ability to do that, with contracts and trades. Maybe some sort of system like that needs to be implemented. I don’t know.
As far as the criticism goes, I think that’s a fans right. Now calling them out in a mean spirited way (like picking on a personal trait, or their family) is beyond the pale…..but still allowed. I wouldn’t do that, but it’s just part of the world, and having expectations. It happens to us in the civilian world.
But I do believe there is less loyalty, across the board, in society and sports nowadays. At least as compared to 20-30 years ago.

PS: I’m not looking for arguments. I’m just a disappointed fan that’s yearning for days past (which may or may not have been an illusion)
