Stanford v USC - ???

I'd be even more shocked if this was a coming-out party for Stanford... I said Stanford could never have a good football team again because their academic standards are too high. I'd definitley have to eat my own words.

Their new stadium is very nice. They should pull some prospects from Cal-Berkeley, at least.

I doubt it. I don't expect to eat my words as I said, this game was a perfect storm of an over-rated USC team that was still managing to underachieve meeting Stanford, who is fired up and clearly playing their best since Ty Willingham left.

However, their academic standards are too high to field a consistently competitive football team from year to year. Aiming for .500 and a low-level bowl more years than not is probably the most realistic expectation out there for Stanford.

As stocked as USC is they find a way every season to lose a game they should win big.

JD Booty is NOT the QB he has been hyped to be. He plays poorly far too often. He made that throws that were just shocking and has in all of their underachieving games.

Booty may not be great but USC has way more talent than Stanford. Harbaugh just made Carroll look silly. Also, ND beat UCLA. SO the Pac 10 still sucks.

per my golf vernacular, the "rub of the green" just doesn't work out at times. I think that laying this L at the feet of Carroll, while ultimately his responsibility, is a bit of a mistake. His QB sucked aloud and the gifts to the Cardinal were aplenty. In a nutshell, any anointing of Harbaugh is a bit premature.

please. we're talking about a team that was 40 point underdogs playing at USC, where the trojans haven't lost since 2001. Harbaugh had everyone on Stanford's team ready and excited to play. He did an excellent job coaching. give the man his props.

I'd say God had more to do with the outcome than Harbaugh. Teams that inferior win with poor play from the opponent moreso than good play on their own. I'm sure you weren't anointing anyone when Vandy beat UT a couple of years ago.

UT didn't make a bowl 2 years ago.

don't bring facts into the argument tvols. it only makes bpv's rationale look even more foolish.

After the war of words between Carroll and Harbaugh. there is no way Carroll undervalued this game. The talent differential alone should have allowed for USC to never throw a pass and win. This loss is ALL at the feet of Carroll.

uhhhh....the talent differential in that football game was enormous. to his point, the coaching differential may have been equally enormous in the opposite direction, but we clearly had to play down to the competition to lose that football game. same can be said of the Trojans yesterday.

Carroll might have valued this game enormously, but I guarantee you his players viewed it the way we view UT - Vandy.

Cutler > anybody on Stanford.
that's probably true, but the remainder of the mismatches were probably very similar.

Surely you're not arguing that Vandy even belonged on the field with that UT team, from a talent POV.

You can't compare Stanford to Vandy. Vanderbilt is head and shoulders above Stanford.

only of late. Vandy's last decent team was an early 80s squad. Stanford has been relevant much more recently.

Yeah and this discussion is about Vandy's 05 team and Stanford's 07 team.

Vandy >>>>> Stanford talent wise in the last 4 years

Stanford went to the Rose Bowl in the late 90's or early 2000's, I can't remember the exact year. But that is irrelevant to the discussion

how's this? Stanford just beat the number 2 team in the country, when was the last time Vandy did such? Why can't they be compared?

Talking about the talent levels on the 80's Vandy teams or the talent on the Stanford team that went to the Rose Bowl in what 2001 or whenever it was has absolutely no bearing on the talent of the Vandy team or Stanford team of today.
