Stanley Cup (merged)

He was.

Vancouver's Rome suspended for four games for late hit - 2011 Stanley Cup Final - Canucks v Bruins

Still, it's a trade Vancouver will gladly take. They lose a fourth line defender and the Bruins are now without their second leading scorer and, arguably, their most important player in the playoffs not named Tim Thomas.

Yep. Sucks for Boston. I hope they can keep it up. I started the series cheering for the Canucks, but after all the crap I've been seeing I've stopped.

Looking that way but the Canucks have the talent to put it in the net. They need one early while the ice is clean

That goal was sick. I think that's enough beat down for me tonight.

The Bruins will win this series.

I hope not.

Not that the NHL will care about losing one fan who only watches the playoffs.

I hate Boston in all sports, sorry bro.

Btw, how did you end up liking all things Boston and the Vols? Born in Mass and attended UT? Just curious.

I have family in Boston so they grew me up to be a Boston sports fan, always lived in Tennessee though. Dad grew me up a Vol.

Because it could go down to the wire or because you're pulling for Boston?

I have liked Boston for a while, mostly because when I was younger they were one of about four teams that Fox actually showed on the national broadcasts. So, the last two games have been a treat.

lol

Solid reasons for both. I'm not a huge hockey fan in any sense. I just love it when elimination is on the line and enjoy the intensity of the playoffs. I have no loyalties to any hockey team. Just in it for the excitement.

I wouldn't say Vancouver is done, but after they squeaked out 2 wins at home and got their butts handed to them the past 2 games, the Bruins are definitely looking stronger right now.

Vancouver's run this year reminds me of 1994. If you remember, they needed three straight OT wins to take the first round series (against Calgary) 4-3. They then blew through Dallas and Toronto with no trouble, then went tooth and nail in the Final against the Rags. Their big wins were largely unimpressive and could just as easily have gone the other way.

To look at this team, they barely held on and needed a horrible play by Campoli to escape the first round against an 8 seed, they destroyed the next two opponents, and now they're down to a best-of-3 against Boston.

Of course, in 1994, it was a 7th-seeded Canucks team that had underachieved the last two years that suddenly put everything together. This year is quite another story.

Offhand I can't think of a mid season d man brought in to QB the PP that has worked out at all, though theres4-5 per year

The post right above this one reminded me of one that did work. St. Louis signed Petr Nedved to an offer sheet, which Vancouver declined to match. The Canucks then received Craig Janney as compensation, who refused to report. Vancouver traded Janney back for a low-level prospect (Nathan Lafayette), a second-pairing defenseman (Bret Hedican), and the big gun on the power play in Jeff Brown. St. Louis didn't make it out of the first round, while Vancouver finally started getting it going, and there's no way that they go anywhere without Brown.

Then, of course, Brown was introduced to Kirk McLean's wife...

QUICK EDIT: I looked up the records after the trade in question. Hedican and Lafayette reported and played for Vancouver on March 23, 1994; Brown's first game was March 25. Vancouver went 5-5 with Brown in the lineup during the regular season, but 15-9 in the postseason. St. Louis went 6-4-2 down the stretch, then were swept by Dallas in the first round.
