Detroit led Nashville 1-0 after the first period in Game 3 of their series. They got the first goal of the second period to go up 2-0, but Nashville came back to win the game 5-3.
Look, I don't have any idea how much you know about hockey, how long you've been watching, etc. But to claim that you "knew" with certainty that they'd win if they just got a first-period lead makes it sound like you just started watching when the playoffs moved to NBC for the finals. It's silly.
The Wings lost a Game Six on the road LAST YEAR, in Anaheim. Are they suddenly supposed to be unstoppable on the road this year?
i don't know if maybe i wasn't explaining myself or what. i only have so much space to type on my phone, so i was limited.
first, last year in Anaheim, they were down 2-3 going into game 6, so that's not what i'm talking about. second, the Nashville game isn't even relevant because it was game 3.
i am specifically talking about winning game 6, on the road, to close a series. based on the fact that the last 13 times they've had a 3-2 lead going into game 6, they've won, i had no reason to believe they wouldn't win Wednesday. add to that, 11 of the 13 series have been on the road and i have even more reason to be confident.
i never once said that a first period lead in a game means you're going to win.
i want to be clear, based on the stat i mentioned, i knew that if they could get first period lead, it would be over. i also said, that while Detroit had their exciting moments in that game and the Pens made it close, i knew they were going to win after they had the lead.
all i have ever been talking about is Detroit winning game 6 (at home or on the road) and their seemingly automatic ability to get the job done and not have to play game 7. that's it.
edit: also, Detroit did this similar thing in 1998. they had home ice advantage through out and clinched all four series on the road. that year it was all 4-2 if i remember right.
