Star Wars: Episode VIII (December 15, 2017)

Like others, I'm kind of "meh" about this so far. I'm hoping it's not a redo of ESB, which it appears to look like with this short teaser. They can really lose the trilogy franchise if they don't do this right.

I don't know if Rogue One spoiled it for me, but since that, any Star Wars movie has a lot to live up to. They really can go above and beyond if they want, but we'll see how this one pans out.

How would you do it then El Grande? Have the Rebels win all three rounds, or have them winning big the first two, only to get obliterated by a huge sucker punch in ep9?

I would have left Episodes 7-9 out to hang and never made them. They had more than a few tangents in the EU that followed ROTJ that were good story lines. Leave it as it was IMO. They really were 20 years late in making them honestly and the characters were passed by with time. Too much of a gap between the episodes that doesn't have a bridge like 1-3 and 4-6 had with the Rebels series so far.

What I don't want to see is pretty much a remake of Episodes 4-6 with a Mary Sue at the helm. Let's face it, Episode 7 was a remade ANH with modern CGI and little more.

I've said before, they could have made a kickass trilogy based on the Jedi-Sith wars either before the formation of the Republic of after. Think Rogue One style of movie with the Jedi/Sith action kickassery from Episodes 1-3. That kind of trilogy would stay true to the Star Wars universe while creating a new base of fans and keeping the older fans interested. Rogue One just scratched the surface of what Disney could do with the franchise.

I'm not sure how anyone gleaned this will be a ESB homage from that trailer.

I love SW...this feels like real SW, unlike 1-3. That makes me happy. I agree that there other great unmined stories in the SW universe and I'm also 100% sure Diz is going to mine the spit out of them. I like where this tril is going with the balancing of the force storyline...so I disagree with you about that.

Meh, I liked the story behind 1-3 to an extent. Bad acting and a couple of foolhardy moves by Lucas distract from what was arguably a decent lead up to the original trilogy.

Jar jar equals complete fail regardless.

And Midicholorians. And horrid acting by Hayden Christensen all around.

I think The Clone Wars did far more in explaining the downfall of Anakin than Episode 3 ever did.

The last battle at the end of episode 3 made me laugh and angry at the same time, so unbelievable stupid.

Posted this recently, but reposting because it's relevant to this and cracks me up

I honestly don't see how people don't understand Vader's decision. He was drunk on power and was attempting to prove to Obi Wan that he is the more powerful force user. The decision fit Anakin's character perfectly: dumb as hell

PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER!!...Itty bitty brain..

Ha yeah, forgot about that. What a cool looking, but utterly insignificant character.

Yeah, I kinda thought there would be more with that character than there was. Question is if she lived or died in Ep. VII.
