CAN THEY STOP PLAYING NIGHT GAMES FOR ONCE? All the standing around all day waiting to play week in and week out.

UT lost a game on the road in a place the Vols haven't won in over some 20 years that gets pretty hostile with a Freshman QB, who is very talented, but inexperienced, and an OL that got whipped and a staff that didn't adjust, or seem to even attempt to adjust.

Is it panic mode? Probably not. If it continues over the next few games, then yes, it's panic mode. But, what are you gonna do? We'll still have a Freshman QB, who can't afford to be behind an OL that is getting whipped and a staff that has not game planned around his natural deficiencies at this stage in his career.

Nico did not lose us the game at Arky, no picks. He was not good, but he also wasn't overwhelmingly bad either. The loss falls squarely on the entire team, but mainly on the coaches. They were sluggish, getting pushed around and didn't look prepared (this part is concerning). All these things and still had a chance to pull it out in the end.

I do not want to see 3 yards and a cloud of dust football, but they are going to have to provide help to get defenses out of their game plan. If defenses continue to play 3 down linemen and have up to 6 defensive backs in the game, you are gonna have to load it up draw them in and make them stop you with more creative play calling. Yes, the players have to execute, but if the coaches are adjusting and putting them in the best positions to win their battles, they won't. At least not consistently.

I have no clue why there wasn't more passes out of the backfield, te curls and passes to the flat. The timing and the depth of the routes were just not working for Nico. The flow looked way off and how Heup didn't adjust to this is a head scratcher.....
Sampson was open in the flat, including the last possession. Nico decided to go downfield instead of Sampson, who may have scored.

Is it as simple as him missing or is it more complex than that? I'm genuinely interested. Thanks!
If Heupel has the final say on play calling then it is likely more of an indictment of poor qb or oline play than play calling. It’s easy to be a good OC with two years of Hendon Hooker than Joe Milton and a freshman

Yeah, running the ball straight up the middle and throwing sideline passes behind the line of scrimmage should help out a struggling line and QB.

So true...Sampson would have scored, or at least got within the 5 yard line...So many mistakes.

A guest on the Buck Rising (sp?) radio program in Nashville had an interesting perspective. He said that we beat Oklahoma, but Oklahoma showed others how to beat us. He says that defenses know when the coach’s 15 seconds to communicate with the QB ends CJH gives Nico a play call. Then, when the 15 seconds are up, the defense moves, and we have an inexperienced QB left to make his own play call. And he can’t run CJH’s offense. He recommended we go back to signals. I would suggest CJH call the play over the communications, but if the defense moves, have a “look at me.”

What happened to snapping the ball with 30 seconds on the play clock and not even giving the defense a chance to line up?

I thought it was a poor game plan mixed with poor execution.

It should be an SEC rule that when we play on the road we get the 1200 kickoff - like against LSU and Mizz in 2022…😂

I didn't hear all the Golesh talk last year, but now that the offense is struggling, it has to be that Golesh is gone... Poor OL play, average receiver and QB play is the issue. Heupel has not forgot how to call plays.
I mentioned Golesh last year because the play calling wasn't the same. It really showed in the Bama game and I'm not buying it was all Joe and the coaches didn't trust him

I've seen guys like John Elway take a beating too. I've only seen 2 quarterbacks in CFB as to whom blocking was more or less irrelevant. Michael Vick and Vince Young his last year at Texas. That's the list.
Which is exactly why when people bring up a QBs W/L record, I laugh. It’s the most ridiculous stat ever. I don’t how great of a QB you are, if your OL is trash you will not be that successful.

Are we talking about that head coach at South Florida that's 84 in total offense, 78 in scoring offense, 103 in passing offense and 54 in rushing offense, that head coach? 🤷‍♂️

Golesh didn’t call plays.

He knows Heupel’s offense but he was never the mastermind behind it.

Not sure why he’s getting so much praise around here.
