I'm a travel RN currently sitting in a break room in a major hospital in Brooklyn NY. Wearing two facial masks, facial shield, paper gown and gloves. This is how I stay for 12 1/2hrs while at work. Witnessing first hand this deadly and uncontrolled virus with no proven treatment nor vaccine scares me. (I'm also an 8 year military veteran - half of which a combat engineer). In the last two nights, I've been nursing an MD and a critical care nurse both of whom works at this particular hospital. Please do not grow tired and restless, think of the alternative and it's unforgiving and deadly consequences. Proud to be a Volunteer.....Go VOLS.

There’s no vaccines for SARS, or Aids but yet we are not shutting down the economy and we are still going out even though there is multiple diseases that have no vaccine for!!!

Shutting down the economy is a sure fire way to ruin. I had an medical appointment yesterday at UT Medical Center. The rigamarole to get in was ridiculous, and the hospital was virtually empty! No hordes of sick folk. Tennessee needs to reopen for business as usual - and should never have been shuttered!

Diabetes, heart disease, and obesity kill millions and millions every year.
People still over consume sugar and don't work out.

Thousands and thousands of people die in car wrecks each year.
We still drive.

The list of things that kill people is endless. And everyone has the exact same ending. My story ends the same way as Bill Gates, George Washington, and you. We all die.

We can't stop life. We should take precautions, and did/are. If you're scared, continue to isolate yourself and take whatever precautions you deem necessary for you and your family. You're entitled to do so. Those of us who are aware of, and ok with, the risks should not be forced to live our lives a certain way. Getting in my car is still the most dangerous thing I do. The same is true for just about everyone under 50 who takes good care of themselves.

Want to kill me? Make it illegal for me to go outside and get Vitamin D, go to the gym, and have regular spontaneous social interactions.

Suicide rates and domestic abuse are going to jump so high the next 5 years from this economic fallout it's going to make COVID look like child's play.

Stupid call comparison. AIDS is not transmitted via droplet spread for one thing, and there also highly effective antivirals available for it. SARS had a higher death rate which actually means it was easier to contain because we generally didn’t have asymptomatic people spreading it.

There's nothing even controversial or disputable there. Cry more.
dont see it as crying. facts are facts. you can justify your coldness however you wish, your CIC will enable the bevahiour.

if you get CV, which i hope you dont. and you have to go to hosp., make sure and tel your practitioner to stop crying.

I'd rather struggle for money than bring this home and give it to a parent or grandparent.

Most people are selfish and care more about their own comfort than other people's lives. In a land where the majority generally rules, it's a bad time to be old, sick or vulnerable. Best we can hope for is that, if there is a flare up, it will take out the -a-holes who care more about their own wallets than other people's lives.

8,000 people die every day in the US from causes other than covid19. Accepting that doesn't make me cold.
I live in urban Virginia, I likely have already had it based on the number of people I interacted with prior to shutdown that tested positive. Most of which had mild or no symptoms.

You mean the people that provide for old, sick and vulnerable? The people out working everyday in the food chain, hauling essential goods for your consumption? What will the old, sick and vulnerable do then?

Here's a fun fact
IDPH Director explains how Covid deaths are classified
"If you were in hospice and had already been given a few weeks to live, and then you also were found to have COVID, that would be counted as a COVID death. It means technically even if you died of a clear alternate cause, but you had COVID at the same time, it's still listed as a COVID death. So, everyone who's listed as a COVID death doesn't mean that that was the cause of the death, but they had COVID at the time of the death." Dr. Ezike outlined.

SARS burnt itself out, thank God. Neither SARS nor HIV spread as quickly and easily as COVID-19 does. This one is like a wildfire.

What I’m hoping is that we have at least bought enough time for hospitals, clinics, and individual healthcare workers to be prepared for the next wave.

No, we can’t stay on lockdown forever. But nor can we go into fat, dumb, and happy mode, pretending that we haven’t seen the consequences of that already.

@PelhamUT, thanks for what you’re doing, thanks for your post, and be safe. Go Vols!

Yeah, that will do it 😒
It will keep you free from exposure. If people have no money, then they can’t afford to eat, clothe themselves, or to pay mortgage. Then when they begin to starve they will either suffer and possibly die or react violently to provide for themselves and their families. It will be way worse than what this virus can do on a global scale.
