I called it earlier. I knew we would play conservative because we would be afraid to lose the chance to play in a bowl.

What say you now?

That was truly pathetic all the way around.

The gameplan which had to be Jones ASSUMED that Vandy was the better team. UT tried to play not to lose... and failed. Vandy lost all of its starting secondary for some or all of the game... and UT still didn't throw the ball.

The DC once again stank. The OC wasn't any better. ST's were poor.

i've been saying this all along. jones is not the answer. will be at least another 5 years before we are good.

No way you are blaming this on the defense. They only gave up 14 points and produced 4 turnovers. If the O cannot score off of them that is their fault.

The O can't score if the OC won't let the QB throw the ball. They could have run Option all freaking night and done better than that effort. What were they coaching the last 2 weeks? Even if you take 20-30 different plays out of the play book and run them 10 times every practice you should be able to get some production and the QB should be able to look halfway decent. We looked like a DIV III team out there tonight. It was that pathetic! The Defense played lights out and the OC couldn't even call a good game. On the plus side, the last time Vandy beat UT 2 times in a row was Neyland's first year. Hope the results are the same this time.

They were more disciplined for sure.

I have lots of questions about Bajayjay…and I wonder why you hand the ball off 9 yards in the back field on 3rd and 1.

That cost the ball game.

Questions about Bajayjay? How about Butch? He just said they "called a great game". It all starts and stops with Butch.

They had a chance to stop Vandy and preserve a win in spite of an absolutely horrible offensive gameplan... Vandy drove it right down their throat.

They played well to that point but Vandy was playing just as conservative as UT for some unknown reason.

If you watched that last drive--you should understand why I say that our DBs are pathetic--from pass coverage to run support...Even Sutton gave up the outside in front of him and appeared to think he was in zone with Safety help (from McNeil, no less) on that long pass play to 87...

And the TD by Vandy at the end illustrates my point about the DBs NOT knowing their assignment to shut down the outside inside the 10 yd line...watch that last play again--either 27 or 33 has outside contain, but BOTH drop into coverage on the TE....Confusion and pathetic play--all massed together in that last drive....

After two weeks i expected better out of the offense. We knew the defense had problems , but this offense is hot garbage. The play calling at times is hot garbage. I hate this offense. Unless Ferguson is tons better than anything we've ran out there so far, i have some serious doubts it will ever be productive enough to win in the league.

That is the most disheartening statement from CBJ I've ever heard--if he really believes that they called a great game after having 2 weeks to prepare, getting 4 turnovers, and only putting 10 points on the board--then GET RID OF HIM now and bring Fulmer back....I'd vote for that 100%, and I thought that I'd die before EVER SAYING THAT....:salute:

If I would have told you on Friday that the offense would turn the ball over twice and ST would give up a huge KO return you would have told me no way we hold them to 14 points. I thought the defense played good enough to win tonight and were let down by a POOR scheme and game plan by the offense tonight.

I know you will probably disagree so we will have to agree to disagree on this one. :hi:

They played poorly... the playcalling was bad... and there was ZERO pass rush.

And that was because they're stupid, lack athleticism, or are not well coached?

I don't think we do. The D played well until the last drive then they lost it. The O scheme and overall gameplan was just pathetic. And if I could think of a stronger word than that I'd use it.

Pass rush is NOT RESPONSIBLE for consistently allowing 7-10 yds on those "stand up and throw it to the WR" quick passes on the perimeter....It's called lack of ability to read and react by both CB and Safeties...And even SUTTON didn't maintain outside leverage tonight in many of those situations....24/31 (>75%) passing by Vandy for 195 yds and 6.3 ypc...

And that was because they're stupid, lack athleticism, or are not well coached?

Yes--on all three statements.....

Front 7 on D played well enough to win tonight--gave up 2.9 yds per rush....DEs probably played the best game of the season...

However--the D didn't lose the game for us tonight...they were at least consistent.....

CBJ and the OC did--that was the worst game plan for having 2 weeks to prepare for VANDY that I've ever seen....We're 11 games into the season. If we don't have guys on the bench who can take North's place and run the offense--with 2 weeks of preparation for 1 game--that's ALL coaching. :yuck:

Vandy played their worst game all season. I have no idea what Franklin was doing. They've been successful with the wildcat on everyone and they didn't use it at all tonight. It didn't help losing the entire secondary as well as Seymore. Vandy tried their best to lose that game but the Vols wouldn't let them. Ugly win but I'll take it.

I mentioned the playcalling. Yes. They hit those short passes and the DC NEVER crowded the LOS to make it stop.

UT should have beaten Vandy by 3 TD's. VU didn't try to give crap away... you just aren't as good as you've deluded yourself into believing. Sorry to be this harsh... but the truth sometimes isn't nice.

I'm seeing no light at the end of the tunnel. Yeah we get a good recruiting class but he won't be able to keep recruiting at a high level playing like this.

The truth is the Vols lost to Vandy and will be sitting at home again this year.

As many wr screens have been called against us all year long, you would think Jancek could at least watch other teams to learn how to defend it!:banghead2::banghead2:

Butch has some thinking to do....he should have let Dobbs play QB a bit more.

This. There was no reason not to turn Dobbs loose and let him throw except for an overly conservative game plan. INTs are going to happen and simply can't be avoided in a true freshman or inexperienced QB and you've got to roll with that. It's particularly puzzling given Vandy's inability to do much of anything on offense 90 percent of the game. It's not like they were going to run up a big score but I think the coaches were shaken up by recent SEC games -- Bama, Mizzou, and Auburn.

Unlike others I don't think the fake FG was a bad call. Palardy was having issues and if it had worked it would've been great but if not it won the field position game better than missing a FG, a muffed punt or the possibility of decent punt return. It's a win-win call because Palardy was either hurt or too effected by the cold tonight to make that FG.

It's football and you've got to allow your players to take risks, build confidence, get in sync and to get experience.
