We have one more game with these seniors and then a lot of the players who won't let themselves succeed will be gone.

The problem was not seniors but CBJ's hot recruit Dobbs who CBJ and his bearcat genius assistants kept on the leash and would not even let play.

Doesn't make any sense to blame Dobbs and then turn around and blame the assistants for not allowing him to play. If you're not allowed to play it's hardly your fault.

The point I'm making is that the player they recruited specifically for their own spread system is not put in position to even make plays (because of their own scared play calling). That only speaks to the incredible incompetence of this staff.

This. There was no reason not to turn Dobbs loose and let him throw except for an overly conservative game plan. INTs are going to happen and simply can't be avoided in a true freshman or inexperienced QB and you've got to roll with that. It's particularly puzzling given Vandy's inability to do much of anything on offense 90 percent of the game. It's not like they were going to run up a big score but I think the coaches were shaken up by recent SEC games -- Bama, Mizzou, and Auburn.

Unlike others I don't think the fake FG was a bad call. Palardy was having issues and if it had worked it would've been great but if not it won the field position game better than missing a FG, a muffed punt or the possibility of decent punt return. It's a win-win call because Palardy was either hurt or too effected by the cold tonight to make that FG.

It's football and you've got to allow your players to take risks, build confidence, get in sync and to get experience.

Fake a field goal on 4th & 19 isn't a bad call? I would take the risk of a senior kicker having a bad night (but having a most improved player type season) getting it through over making him try to throw it off his back foot & across his body or even run it, which is what the play looked like it was designed to do. There is a time for the fake field goal but that wasn't it.

If you play not to lose, you better have a team that knows how to win. We don't. That's the bottom line.

That makes more sense. Thanks.

I don't understand the calls tonight at all. No reason to play scared with the way Vandy was playing. It's like they went into it thinking Vandy was Aubie, Bama, or even Mizzou this year when Vandy is a product of luck, scheduling, and a cocky but mediocre coach. Then again, this was one very strange game all the way around.

The defense had held Vandy all night. That's why I don't see it as a bad call. It's just not a risky play when all things are considered although it looked risky. For whatever reason, be it the cold or an injury, Palardy wasn't kicking right. Palardy knew it and CBJ knew it. They tried something that was basically zero risk for a potentially big reward. *IF* Palardy was on (and he wasn't even hitting them warming up after the half) then it would be a bigger risk and a stupid call but under the circumstances it wasn't a bad one. Vandy got the ball at their own 18 and immediately went three and out.

The bad call happened before that when the zebras called a block in the back on Pig -- who while, perhaps attempting a block in the back, whiffed. Flagging a guy for 'you were gonna!' and it costing a TD is pretty damned bad.

I mentioned the playcalling. Yes. They hit those short passes and the DC NEVER crowded the LOS to make it stop.

I know I should agree with you but I have been on Jancek for playing press man coverage for a couple of weeks now and questioned why we have not played more zone that I just cannot complain about it.

What I am going to complain about is the safety being late to get there on the pass to Matthews that set them up for the TD. There is just no way you allow him to beat you at that point in the game and I thought zone was the right play call but you have to keep everything in front of you and not get beat over the top.

I don't think we do. The D played well until the last drive then they lost it. The O scheme and overall gameplan was just pathetic. And if I could think of a stronger word than that I'd use it.

If someone would have guaranteed me that Vandy would only score 14 points on us I would have bet my life savings that we would have won.

As I wake this morning I still do not have words for the performance of the offense last night.
