Still waiting to be impressed by Milton!

I will never understand the deal with Milton. He’s not good. He’s never been good. All of us are sick of constantly hearing the announcers. Talk about how far he can throw a ball. It doesn’t matter. He has no touch on the ball often throwing lasers when the receiver is wide open, and the ball needs to be thrown out in front of them with some arch, so they can run under it. Then he way overthrow/under throws the balls.

Heupel has done so much right since he got here but he’s made a massive mistake with Milton. It was a big mistake for him to start him over hooker to begin with… which became obvious, of course, when Milton went out, and Hooker came in. I really thought he would find a replacement for life after a hooker, and was surprised that milton wasn’t encouraged to look around. And now he’s obviously going to ride with Milton even though he’s terrible I guess thinking it will help Nico in his development to not play early. I don’t understand that logic. Why not get the young guy in early and often and see what he can do?

He seems to make a personal decision, and then almost be unwilling to reassess. Or give other guys an opportunity to win playing time when the guy in front of them isn’t doing well.
Sometimes it does more harm than good to play them to soon.
Let’s let the offensive genius/quarterback guru decide.
Remember when we all thought Bailey, Maurer,Shrout had to be a better option than who Pruitt was playing?
Now we know none of them were

A starting qb that’s been replaced what?…..at least 3 times?
Doesn’t mean we would be better off at this time with any of the others.
Nico will be much better at some point , but It might not be now

But, but, but…heupel is at practice and you’re not. And he can throw 80 yards. And some of those 140mph balls knocked the wrs hands and should’ve been caught.

C’mon y’all. We all know Milton isn’t good. He’s a good kid, leader and teammate. But we’re not going to be a good offense with him at the helm. We need to be playing nico. It doesn’t help the future of the program to play a 6th year player that isn’t good while leaving the future of the program on the bench when he could be getting valuable experience.

It wouldn’t hurt nico to play against Austin peay man. Milton was under almost no pressure and had wide open wrs out there all day.

I agree that at times a young guy being overwhelmed and thrown in the fire, can hurt their confidence. But that’s not the scenario we would be looking at right now.

I totally agree about AP, offense was doing nothing the first half. Would of loved to seen him in to see if it made a difference.
Wouldn’t throw him in against an SEC team on the road unless absolutely ready.
I’ll trust Huep to make that call.

I am old enough to remember a thread on here just a few days ago about Basilio saying Milton wouldn't be great, and he got dragged. (plenty of other reasons to go after Tony, but his opinion on Milton isn't one of them)

I think most Vol fans love Milton, and are rooting for him. I know I am. However, the offseason hype was unfounded. Throwing a football 80 yards is a novelty act unless it results in a completion. His guys certainly haven't helped him as much as they should so far this year, but he also clearly isn't as good as we all want him to be. I love the guy and I'm not going to drag him for not being Hooker. Hooker was just really, really good and also likely had a better O-line. I think it's fair to say Milton isn't as good as we hoped, but I also think it's fair to do it with some context. We all want him to come out and light it up next week. I think he could do that, I just don't know. He does need to take a big step going forward. It comes with the territory of being the starting QB at a place like this. High praise, and also much criticism. As I said, I don't want to pile on the guy because I think he knows he can be better and I think he's working hard to be better. Of all my concerns about this team, my first remains secondary. (JMO, as worthless as it may be)

I think you’re absolutely right.
Typical vol nation fashion, unrealistic expectations then at the first time struggling it’s overreaction time.
We can lead the nation in scoring last year and if we dropped to 3rd this year Milton would be a bum and Huepel obviously doesn’t know what he’s doing.

He wasn’t great tonight but neither was the rest of the offense
