TOD (Rob Lewis) has some observations regarding Stokes' first practice... anyone with subscription have the cliff notes?

Looked very physically gifted and very strong and athletic.

Also,

"He looked really good in drills and conditioning work, showed good coordination and body control in finishing around the rim and handling the ball. That's a long way from saying that he'll make a seamless transition into playing in the SEC, but certainly a positive start in that he doesn't look overwhelmed by joining a college team."

Can someone explain to me Stokes's story? Why was he waiting to be cleared from the SEC? Not followed Basketball this year much.

He transferred to a new high school for his senior year and then was declared ineligible due to transfer rules. Being a top notch student, he decided to finish up his work and graduate early so he could sign with a college mid-year and begin playing right away. We had a scholarship available and he decided to be a vol.

He should still be in high school, but he's an overachiever in the classroom

Dude has size for sure. He didn't do a whole lot, basic drills and such, but you can just tell his moves are effortless. Can't wait to see him in action.

Anybody know of other kids who have made this mid year jump? If yes, how did it pan out?

Off the top of my head the only one that i can think of recently is the dawkins kid from duke. he i believe is a sophmore this year, last year is when he came in early. he was a solid contributor right away and played quite a bit in the ncaa tourney for them. it's a bit different his game being primarily a shooter but his scenario was the same as stokes.

At a reported 270 lbs today, he will have no trouble pushing guys off the block. If Woolredge can play some at the 3 we could put some pretty big lineups out there!

Dude is seriously one of the hardest workers I've heard.

I think he got told he wasn't playing September and then decided to graduate high school in three months and did it. That's pretty damn impressive to accomplish that in such little time.

On Vol Calls tonight, CCM said Stokes wanted to come in tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM to watch film. CCM said he told him to get some rest and come in after student orientation tomorrow. This guy is the Peyton Manning of basketball. Apparently eat, lives, sleeps basketball and will outwork everyone.

He will be an AA next year. I'm not expecting a lot this year. I seriously think he can put up a 20/10.

By the way, if Jarnell was 6'10 and not 6'8, he would probably be a top 10 draft pick for 2013, and a top five prospect.

What wouldbe the harm in letting him play a couple of minutes. If he does well, let him play a little more, if he doesn't, take him out. He would not do any worse than most of our players.
