Stokes to try football...

Sparty question, obviously has nothing to do with this topic, but while you're here.

This is a honest question, and I ask you because you do know what you're talking about, I just joke about it with you. What do you think happened today?

I've asked this before, but honestly? Do you think it was a massive overhaul of a gameplan? Or did guys shot hit shots and play better on both ends? I ask because, I can't imagine at this point of the season Martin doing anything drastically different in practice that turns his system from a loss to Vandy, to a 40 point ass whooping of Vandy.

And it wasn't as though we were unconscious shooting, we played absolutely great defense. We shot well, but from the line it could've been better, and it wasn't like we were 90% from three.

TIA

Didn't seem to walk it up once in the first half and attacked early. That usually builds confidence and rhythm. That's pace. And guys usually hit more shots from playing that way, along with inside out game. We even ran 2 pick and rolls correctly. Barton can't do that all the time but he was allowed to do more today and his confidence was boosted. If you are pulled quickly from games and told to just give the ball to McRae each game, its hard to play well.
Gameplan was total opposite of vandy where we absolutely walked it over midcourt almost every possession. If you play with energy, everybody plays better. If you play slow and mechanical, we dont. See the 2nd half when we slowed it down back to halfcourt and pounding into Maymon.
Defense also improved, especially help d and pick and roll d. They obviously prepped harder and gameplanned better. You know the question is, why not do that the first game? Every game? Even every other other other game.

I know this wasnt directed towards me but its simple really. We hit shots that weve been missing most of the year and Vandy was stone cold. Ive said it over and over the type of offense CM runs some nights we can beat anyone in the country and some night we can lose to anyone in the country. Its all just depends if were hitting shots or not. We didn't shoot 90% from 3 but 47% is pretty damn good. This team will live and die by the 3 just like they have all year because that's the only offense our players know. Martin doesnt know how to get guys good looks consistently from inside the 3 point line.

We were 10-21 from three, so if we shoot our season average percentage we go 7-21, that's 9 less points. So instead of winning 76-38 we win 67-38?

That's still an ass whooping.

Yes. It is. However, Vandy could not buy a shot. Any team that shoots 22% is going to get their ass kicked. Not trying to discredit our defense because they did play well, but 22% is just embarrassing.

Agree. I was just more impressed with our defense than offense, as you said Vandy missed their fair share too though.

It was probably like usual somewhere in the middle, not a 40 point win, but they play better still a double digit win.

Would like to see that effort every game.

And that's whats so maddening about this team and this coach. Thats why people want CM gone. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever why we can't be a top 3 team in the league. We SHOULD NOT be a bubble team.

Play basketball for 20 years making 6 figures a year while still being able to walk when he's 50 or get your body destroyed for a couple of years in the NFL with no guaranteed money.

I say he made the right choice.

Name some NBA players that played 20 seasons - with no knee pain @ 50

“@Ben_Fred: Stokes on NBA "I really don't know. Just get to the tournament and do some damage in the tournament. Right now I'm just thinking a/b Auburn"”

“@Ben_Fred: Stokes was his usual interesting self today. Said playing football for the #Vols is "in the back of his mind" if he returns for Sr season.”
Per Ben Fred...That's right and Gruden is coming in to be his personal coach. :eek:lol:

So if we end the year as the 3 seed in the SEC he's got your support?

Trying to remember the guy from Memphis about 20 years ago who was an average bb player but switched to football and had a really good career at tight end for the Eagles I believe. Was it Kevin Fromm or something like that.
