Stop doubting a tall RB!

So your theory is.....since Danica Patrick is a NASCAR driver all women are good drivers?

For the record, I hope Hurd is the best RB to ever play the game. But just because there are a few examples of tall rb's that have been successful, it doesn't change the fact that the odds are against him.

It's not that the odds are against him more than it's most 6'3" 240 guys play TE or LB. There just aren't that many RBs his size but the ones that do from what I've seen are just as successful as the 5'9" Rbs.

Also what makes the odds against him I ask?

James Wilder Jr. is another tall RB that is good.

Bc VOL fans have to find something to complain about. We complain we can't land a big time RB so when we do land one we have to complain about his size. I think personally he's going to be a great RB. I'm hoping for a Marcus Lattimore type freshmen season. I'm not going to be disappointed though if he doesn't have that type of impact immediately though. I expect Lane to start at first at least.

Wilder IMO is the 3rd best RB on the team for FSU. I think Hurd will have a bigger impact than that.

I think he will make a better NFL back than the rest of them. He runs with a lot of power. He also got hurt that's why he lost his job.

I believe Hurds UT career will be at RB, but if not i'm sure he will make a hell of a player at what ever position he is put at.

Blair is the best run blocking T I've ever seen out of JuCo. He's a mean player too. I'm not sold he'll be a great pass blocker here, but he'll hold his own and we will reap the benefits of his run blocking skills. Wolfe as a zone line blocking TE is really going to help in the run too. I also have heard Weisman plays with a mean streak as well so we might see a dirty run blocking line next year.
Shades of Conrad Dobler, if we could get a dirty mean OL next year some of those virgin sacrifices will have been worth it.

Eric Dickerson and Jim Brown as well.

Jim Brown was 6'2" and 232 lbs. Eric was 6'3' and 220 lbs. Just wondering at what height do you call a RB tall? Over 6'0" over 6'1"? The way I see it depends on the individual, running style, lean, etc.

Just looking at Derrick Henry and Jalen Hurd, it is obvious that Henry is much thicker and more muscular, with about the same speed. Hurd is around 225 to 230 at most. Henry is at 238-240 I believe. You can't compare the two just on height alone. What scares me the most about Hurd is he appears to be a bleeder, maybe a glass jaw. He has already had two shoulder surgeries. While Henry broke his leg, that was a clean break which healed completely. I know the doctors say Hurd's shoulder will heal as well, but the two surgeries are cause for concern. I think Hurd may be a bit faster than Henry, but Henry is easily the more physical back. He could play in the NFL right now. Hurd is also more of a strider, while Henry takes shorter steps and is more punishing. Hurd also runs more upright than Henry, which is a cause of concern. I'm just gonna see how this plays out. I'm not anti-Jalen Hurd. I am, however, a little skeptical about his durability and the lack of competition he played in high school. While he played 5A ball, 5A football in Tennessee is not nearly as competitive as other states.

Anything over 6 foot is generally tall for a RB, but if they can run with good pad level, height doesn't matter.

I had no opinion on tall RBs until this thread. Now I'm beginning to doubt them. Maybe they should be LBs.

I can't stand Bama and I'm thrilled that they lost last night...but maybe the doubters out there will realize a 6' 3" tailback "CAN" be successful. Bama's Henry who's 6'3 240lbs looked more than capable. So enough with those of you who think Hurd "can't" or "won't" cut it as a running back here at UT! Go Vols

Henry will be the best of all they have, what Hurd 6-4 240, from day 1 if healthy Heard will be the man need to learn pass protection and bamb, we got our back for 3 years.
