Stop trying to force a #1 vs. #2 "NC" game

There is no in-between with college ball.

Either the pre-BCS system or a playoff with at least 16 teams, which will drastically reduce the gravity of the regular season.

I'm not sure I understand what you are advocating. If it's a playoff with 16 or more teams- absolutely not.

Actually, the 16 team playoff would be the best for a playoff IMO. It's in line with the rest of the NCAA.

- All 11 conference champions get in. Notre Dame has to finish in the top 20 to be guaranteed an at-large spot
- BCS conference champs are guaranteed a top 6 seed, unless they finish 17th or below in the BCS standings.
- First round game would be played at the higher seed's home stadium the week after the conference title games. Second round games would be played mid-December. The Final Four would be played on Christmas Eve, and the NCAA Championship would be played on New Years Day at the site of the final four.

If you can't finish the year ranked ahead of 16th, you don't deserve jack crap. I mean, freaking UGA would be in the playoffs this year with 3 losses. The playoff selection would be even more of a beauty contest than the current system. And there's just no way every conference champ deserves a spot.

Does every conference champ in the NCAA Basketball tourney deserve a spot? No, but at least it gives the lesser teams the shot to play the big boys.

I don't see the point in changing things if you are going to make the playoffs as memorable as the first round of the NCAA bball playoffs. When you are taking 64 teams, there's room to throw in some of these guys. They have no place amongst the college football elite.

See, now that's elitist thinking. To say that some of those teams from mid-majors can't beat the big guys is borderline disrespectful.

Elitist? Give me a break. Somewhere along the line, the focus moved from making sure we found the true #1 to making sure we don't piss off the MAC, Sunbelt, Mountain West and WAC. It's ridiculous that every single year we go through the charade of pretending that Ball State or Utah might be the best team in the country.

That is another thing I dislike about the BCS. Match ups like Cincy v. V. Tech I find to be almost unwatcahble.

Who cares? It's realism. If you want to include the occasional one that goes undefeated and beats a few decent teams, then fine. The majority of conference champs, however, would struggle with teams of South Carolina's caliber. They have no business being included in a hunt for the NC.

Hmmm? That would be happening with or without the BCS. Those two were conference champs. Plus, the majority of BCS matchups have been really, really good.

I'm not trying not to piss off anyone. If these BCS schools think they can beat the mid-majors, line up, and let's play.

And Utah might very well be the best team in the country. We will never know though.

I know, but if the winner advanced it would give me more reason to care about watching. As is, the Orange Bowl meant about as much as the GMAC Bowl did to me, this year.

That's why I almost wish the old system was in place so that Cincy would be the at large team in a mid December bowl where they belong.

The thing is, they do line up and do play, fairly often. And the BCS schools win so frequently that when a mid major does manage to win it's an enormously huge spectacle that everyone talks about for years after the fact.

The Big East champ hasn't always had a spot in a decent bowl?

Non-BCS schools are 3-1 in BCS bowls.

Big East football is comparatively a new thing. Thinking back you are probably right though. Schools like Miami and Syracuse were getting good bowls back in the 90s. The thing is, the Big East has been a joke since the ACC raided Miami, BC and VT a few years ago.
