In today's KNS and the most interesting part of the story to me was that Tennessee did not hire Jay Wright of Wagner who was recommended by Ernie Grunfeld.

Oh well. Life is full of regrets. Glad we aren't regretting not hiring Barnes when he was available. Circumstances are the key here. No doubt Wright would have been great here, but he might not have won national championships here. The NCAA is a one and done tourney. Playing a tough regular season schedule doesn't always bode well for deep NCAA runs. Villanova had it relatively easier in their regular season schedules, especially down the stretch in their conference

Hiring head coaches was not Hamilton's strong point. Cuonzo Martin was not a good fit to follow Pearl. He was the exact opposite of Pearl's outgoing personality and up tempo style of play.

His FB hires were not any better.
Cuonzo was not a very good basketball coach anyway in my opinion. He always stayed one step ahead of the possee. Left Tennessee for Cal. Left Cal for Missouri. His coaching finally caught up with him.

But he had the "street cred" before swag was a thing.

Cuonzo always reminded me of the character Tone Loc portrayed in the movie "Heat" with Diniro, Pacino, Kilmer, et. all. Something about his voice when speaking, it was like he was doing you a favor by just barely getting the words out.

And dont forget Todd Raleigh. Hate to speak ill of the recently passed but Hamilton was the worst AD we ever had.

That team also had Richardson and McCrae on it--two NBA wingers. We underachieved.
Agreed. We got a S16 that year but kinda tumultuous year. Ended up 11 seed play in when we should have been top 5 if I remember correctly. Golden running point?

It comes from a place of bitterness. I’m super petty and the fact Pearl put his Junior College level son out there as much as he did will forever make me angry, so I make jokes. Daddy’s boy really took minutes from Maymon.
Oh, yeah .... I remember it well. Steven Pearl was getting 20 minutes of playing time a game for a good portion of the 2010-2011 season. It was outrageous.
