Man if Maymon could’ve stayed healthy. Wow he was tough! Didn’t he have a 30pt -20rb game against Memphis in Maui? He wasn’t nearly as explosive post injure… sad
Wonder how he’s doing?
He still, to this day, acts like he was and is something. He was #1 on my most punchable face list , but Mahomes dropped him to second place. That Vivek dude is 3rd but he’s coming in hot for that top spot. That dude could give a 15 minute speech on how great I am and I’d still hate every word of him saying it, he’s just obnoxious and smug.I remember him hogging that preseason NIT trophy like he single handedly won the thing. It was embarrassing.
In the big picture, Hamilton was good for humanity and left an indelible mark on society.Your point is certainly well taken. Pruitt was the worst hire of alltime but Flummo just screwed up one sport all be it the far and away most important. Meanwhile Hamilton screwed up football, basketball and baseball and meantime almost bankrupted the UTAD.
Jimmy Haslam has some responsibility too. Hamilton wasn't afforded unilateral authority on most HC hires as some others have had while there. Fulmer was given football, but Randy Boyd took care of men's basketball. I think Fulmer highly recommended Jollie, which was a pretty decent hire at the time. White has more authority than any of them since Dickey. No reason not to throw a package at a big time women's BB coach. No other program besides UCONN has the goods and history like UTYour point is certainly well taken. It comes from a place of bitterness. I’m super petty and the fact Pearl put his Junior College level son out there as much as he did will forever make me angry, so I make jokes. Daddy’s boy really took minutes from Maymon.
And now he’s cos my as someone who is only coaching because of his Daddy, who is trying to make sure lil Steve gets the HC job after he’s done.I'll give SP some credit, he did improve from when he started. I remember against Vandy early when he was playing more and he almost broke the backboard with a shot. Having said that if his name wasn't Pearl he wouldn't be seeing the court. And he sure was cocky for someone only playing because of daddy.
As bad as all of the football hires were, hiring Todd Raleigh is the worst HC hire in the history of Tennessee sports. Not only was he in over his head as a coach, he was a terrible human being.. Even worse than the basketball hires of Wade Houston and that little no neck guy who looked like Paul Bearer from WWF who couldn't even pronounce Vols correctly.Cuonzo's sweet 16 team got to the sweet 16 due to an incredibly fortunate draw. Iowa, UMass and Mercer were not good. I'm not sure how Mercer bear Duke.
UMass was the worst top-6 seed I ever saw in the tourney. The Minutemen finished 5th in the A-10 and fell out of the rankings after 2 losses to St. Bonny and St. Joe and went 6-6 in their last 12 games.
Then to act at the end like the fans were not giving him a chance when he lost games to Xavier who went 17-14. UTEP who played in CBI and lost first game. TWO losses to a mediocre aTm team who also went to CBI. A loss to an under .500 Vandy team. A loss to NIT bound Mizzou.
Tennessee played two UGLY games in the SEC Tourney.
Tennessee didn't beat a ranked team all season. I'm not convinced the Vols ran actual offensive plays in many games.
And if you really want to get me started?!?!? Start talking about Todd Raleigh. A terrible coach and an equally bad human being. At least Cuonzo had a positive life story with accomplishments. Todd Raleigh didn't have a clue about anything!

Grunfeld recommended Wright back when we hired Buzz. He was at Hofstra then. Grunfeld did recommend Pearl and we finally listened. Grunfeld also recommended Bill Self from Oral Roberts when Tennessee hired Jerry Green. There were others prior to that. I think EG may have even recommended Barnes at one point. Either when we hired Wade or O’Neill.Grunfeld was the one that recommended Pearl from an article I read years ago.
Correct, Jay Wright was at Hofstra when Grunfeld recommended UT to hire him. Instead Dickey hired Buzz Peterson.Jay Wright was at Hofstra prior to Villanova.

We had arguably the top basketball resourcing mind in America as an alum offering advice for free and we never listened until Hamilton finally listened to him with Pearl. And every one of EG’s recommendations turned out to be gold.
Kansas is an Adidas school, though. My first thought:
That is fascinating. We missed out on some HOF coaches and most likely a final four or two. It’s a true shame when someone is too stupid to know when they’re receiving not just great advice, but more like winning lotto numbers.
My second thought (Vols thought):
We were an Adidas school back then and probably would have been caught red handed and received real punishment, unlike Kansas.
