We are seemingly very close to reaching a deal with Strong. We were going to pay Grude 9 mil for him&staff. If we hire Strong,we will get a good recruiter, motivator, and defensive guru And SAVING 5m a year! I think we could be competing for titles in14 if we hire a brilliant OC as coach-in-waiting. We don`t need a panzyazz Oregon offense. That`s fine against NE Ariz Tech, but will NOT beat top-tier SEC teams imo. VOLNATION,PLEASE LIST YOUR TOP 5 OC WE COULD HIRE BELOW. OR JUST 1. I AM ON MOBILE AND CAN`T RESEARCH. PLEASE LIST AT LEAST 1 REASONABLE CANDIDATE BELOW. THANKS! GO VOLS!

I agree he could have us competing, but why with Strong being so young would we put a title of "HC in waiting" on an OC?

Honestly I think retaining Chaney and Graham would be a good fit with putting the emphasis on getting the best defensive staff in the country together.

*I would also try to lure Tee back home as well. Strong, Tee and Graham would make for a helluva recruiting staff.

Jim Chaney would be a solid option to keep. It's hard to ignore our offense putting up near 500 yards a game.

The issue I have with keeping Chaney is the games like Vandy. Where was that offense? Why were our NFL WR's stopped all day long? If we can score 35 on USC or UGA, why the drop off for the game that mattered in getting to a bow game?

If Gundy tells us no, I would like to see us go after his OC Monken at maybe 800 grand. He makes 600 now.

He would be solid. I still contend that games like this year's Vandy happened because Dooley had his hands on the play calling enough to completely screw things up. Also while I hated the "players on the field" excuse being thrown around, I won't totally throw it out either, and I contend on that game alone, there was something... off... with the players in that game. Not going to wear a tin foil hat or anything, but I'm almost willing to bet that the best OC in the country would not have fielded a good day that game.

Please Explain

Chaney`s succes THIS YEAR IN A FEW GAMES WERE DUE TO OUR O-LINE,WRS,AND BRAY& LANE. ALSO THE NUMBERS ARE MISLEADING BECAUSE WE WERE CONTINUALLY BEHIND!! WE NEED Ws WITH 200yds rushing! NOT Ls with 500 passing!! NO CHANEY!!

I believe Strong is 51. He looks good for his age.

Chaney needs to go. We need to be able to run the ball better. Keep graham get rid of Chaney. Not that Chaney is a bad OC, but he isn't what I think would be best for competition in the SEC.

Our offense wasn't the issue. Period.

One good thing about Strong is his salary and buyout is so low that we could afford to pay for a top 5 OC. Hell we could throw $1.5 million at an OC.

So low? If the rumor yesterday is true we would be paying him 3.75 million a year along with his 2.5 million dollar buyout, I see no "deal" anywhere in there for a very unproven HC.

Completely agree. Chaney got pass happy because we don't have a legit RB. If we keep Graham that will change!

we were always behind due to our defense only stopping the other team 1 out of every 1 million times they had the ball! we were in alotta games due to our offense putting up 500 yards passing behind Bray and CP and Hunter and Rogers. as far as us needing a 200 yards rusher yes we do but when you have R. Neal falling down ne time ne body gets near him or he is always tryin to find the best place to fall down everytime he gets the ball there is no chance you can have a 200 yard rusher with him. Chaney was playing the cards he had and the cards he had were a great passing game and a below avg rushing game

I read somewhere that his buyout is $2.5 million if he leaves UL before June 30th, 2012. It then goes down but I'm not sure how much. If he indeed has a $2.5 million buyout right now, that would be tough to swallow and still allow room for his new salary and top notch assistants.

I like Chaney but he has done little to turn Bray into a leader, and while his play-calling is good a lot, he also goes away from the run too quickly. Tries too many longish passes when we need to get, say, 3 or 5 yards. When Manning and Brady need five yards, notice how often they throw to TE or slot guy and get 6/7 yards. Chaney has Bray throwing 15 yards incompletions to Hunter. Not smart.

we need a mobile QB. The motor of most good offenses nowadays is a mobile qb--not guys like we've had for 12 years that can hardly move.
