Student Section

This has very little to do with fall break. That student section has been empty ALL season, mostly the upper deck but the lower deck has seen better days. It's time to shrink the student section if they aren't going to show. The school would make so much more money off them that way anyway instead of letting them go to waste.

No they wouldn't. People aren't buying the $70+ tickets as it stands. I know tickets aren't priced based on the product but they have been overpriced considering the product the last 5 yrs. We have some of the most expensive tickets in the SEC.

Why the hell don't they just charge a few extra bucks to their activity fee??? Do all SEC schools do this now??

Better yet, why don't we shrink the student section and open those seats up to general public? Then the people who actually WANT to go to the game can use them.

I was sitting in the student section. It was loud. With the exception of the UGA game, the loudest it has been in a long time. Ya'll stop complaining, it's really getting annoying. Our student section is among the best in the country. There is a reason why the players all came over and cheered in front of it after the game. There is a reason why our atmosphere was one of the first things that Butch mentioned in his postgame presser

Back then UTK was easy

Now its hard.

When you get a break you want to get the hell off campus after stressing out for exams before break all week.

Hence, attendance was a little lower for students

We appreciate the students like you that actually show up, however clearly there isn't enough of you to fill up all the empty seats.

I (a student) was rocking it in row 1 of the student section with a friend. Most people I know went home or went on a mini-vacation/getaway.

As stated, fall break should have been last week. Doensn't make any sense.

as a student and avid vol fan, i just don't understand the logic of having fall break on a home game, with a bye week the week beforehand

this just highlights the disjoint between UT Admin and UT athletics. It's sad really.

Yeah because we're selling out every Saturday anyway....Shutup with the stupid comments, when Neyland is filled to capacity with no empty seats except for what's in the student section this will be a valid statement

What is up with the student section not being full? I've had season tix since 1994 and have never seen them this empty. Instead of selling nose bleed tix for 10.00 they need to sell their tix for 10.00. Really disappointed in them!

Foreign kids prefer soccer

Up top? I feel like that never fills up. They need to sell those tix cheap to people (whether students or not).

I was in the first row of the georgia game rockin my smokey gray jersey and it was an awesome atmosphere

Except look at the difference in density. Every game I ever went to people were smashed down into the lower bowl.

that's also a part (although small). Many students who have upper deck tickets just go down to the lower section and sit with friends with better seats. That's why it's always crowded down there, and surely accounts for some missing seats in the uppers

I don't understand what Coug wants? You think if UT takes the student tix and makes them available to the general public you're going to get them for $15/game like the students do? No, they'll still be charged at the price of the "regular" tix. You say take them, that way folks who want to go can go. News flash there's tix available through UT almost every game at this juncture. I bought my UF tix last year the week of the game through UT. If not you can always show up and buy them off the street. I bought mine for $15 yesterday before KO and made it in in time to see the T. The UF tix were the first I've bought through the school since graduating in '07 because I know I can find them for less on the street.

haha the student section was impressive for Fall Break, you guys are nuts.

I'm not sure how many were there and, frankly, don't really care. I know it was loud and we were into the game and never let up.

I was proud of the intensity from the students and looking around after the game during the celebration was one of the proudest moments of my college career.

During the UGA game, I was in section I over in the back corner of the end zone and there were seemingly twice as many students there as there are seats available. The students who get the top bowl really do (especially in big games) come down to the lower bowl where we feel we have a larger impact on the game. I remind you that the reported attendance at UGA was a sellout.

Yes and yet look at section GG just to the right of the empty student section. Packed pretty full.

I don't care if you charge $10 or $45+ the point is they'd still be getting more money than they are now and those seats would be filled if they weren't assigned to the students. If the students want to and are able to cram themselves into the lower section even on the biggest home games then let them. It doesn't change the fact that the section allotted for students is clearly too large for the number of students currently attending. If it makes you feel better then make it a fluid situation where that section goes to the public for now and then the school can reevaluate the situation again next season.

That's just it they won't be filled because Neyland is NOT being filled......

So this is what we're talking about.

I don't think you understand how many students with upper level tickets sneak into the lower level to be a part of the rowdier part of the student section.
