Stump Removal

You guys may be missing the point of all this. It comes down to the man vs. the stump.

Don't wimp out with machinery, TNT, dairy products and/or chemicals. Get your mattock, shovel, axe, steel bar, hatchet, pick, pocket knife, cigarette lighter and whatever other tools you have available and wage war on the stump. Lay out your strategy well, because sometimes when you wage war with a stump, the campaign can go on for weeks, or months and sometimes even years.

And don't let up until the stump turns loose from the ground and you roll it out of the way and onto a brush pile so you can watch it burn.

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your overall efficiency?

Make a day of it. Call some buddies over & drink a few maybe pull out a quart of the good stuff. Then break out the shovels, picks, axe, & chainsaw.

But a +1kabillion for stress relief.

Indeed. That's one of the main purposes.

While waging war with the stump, you can debate deep philosophical questions - with yourself, do all kinds of calculations, figure out answers that have eluded you and come up with all kinds of new and better ideas.

And then, when you get thru with the stump, you don't have to worry about any of this because you are so tired you forget it all.

I have 2 stumps, I'm going to use buttermilk in one and salts in the other just to see which does the trick fastest.

Yes, I'll post pictures.

Almost 4 months. Update?

I have a friend that asked me how I would suggest to remove two stumps in his yard. I remembered this thread.

I'll update every couple of weeks. One of the artickes I read said it could take a couple of months...

I filled the holes with Epsom Salt, added water, then topped them off again with more salt.

The holes are 4-5 inches deep..

It didn't...I kept the salt in them for 2-3 months and didn't notice anything..eventually had a guy come in with a stump grinder, and he took them out for $25 bucks
Much more efficient

Looks like I'll be breaking out the axe then. Thanks for nothing, stump thread.
