Why is it called a 'safety'? Why not an 'oh damn' or a 'we suck'?

Why aren't the refs required to wear helmets, too?

Why are the stats for FGs measured from where the kick is made. but the stats for punts measured from the line of scrimmage?

Why did the SEC pick blue and yellow as their logo colors, when green is the one color not used by any SEC team?

Why do we still say "FBS" and "FCS" even though both tiers now have championship games/playoffs?

Why did the Dallas Cowboys under Tom Landry have their offensive line take a sort of crouched set position before each play, then in unison stand up straight and then take their 3-point stance?

It made them look MASSIVE. Also, the backs would shift at the same time, so the hosses might obscure the defense's view.

Heh, that one's easy: at some point in American football history, they wrote a rule into the rule book just for that purpose, so that holders can be "still in play" even starting out on a knee.

What are the bands or bracelets worn by players on their biceps? What purpose does it serve. I've told the Mrs. it is to make their biceps look larger. Anyone know for sure?

i know that atleast in oregon's case they do this to make a read on the defense.if they line up favorably they go for two to try and take advantage of the mismatch(es) the defense gives them.if they dont line up favorably they bunch back up to go for one so that theres no holes to let them through on the pat.
