I was just as unhappy as the next guy about Sanders play calling but I DO NOT believe in the fans booing our own team in Neyland Stadium. What kind of effect do you think this has on the players?

They're probably wanting to boo the play calling too.

:shakehead:

They were in fact booing the playcalling. But I just don't like to hear that in the middle of a UT/ Bama game.

The Fans in the stadium are getting sick and tired of the offensive coaching staff shooting themselves in the foot.

The problem I have with the booing is that half of those that are booing don't know play-action from foreplay.

It is so simple minded to always blame the coaches when the offense stalls. Until you've seen the film, there's no way of knowing if it was a bad call, a lack of execution or good defensive play that caused a play not to work. This ain't Playstation.

But even if you don't like the playcalling, don't boo at home against Alabama. There's a lot of kids on the field playing their hearts out that feed off the emotion of the crowd. The people in the stadium have to understand that they have a role to play.

While I agree that the booing was over the top, that was the sorriest game Tennessee has called all year. If it was not for the defense, we would have been in some serious trouble. Both last year and this Fulmer (I don't think Sanders had a hand in this) has been so afraid to lose to Bama, that he goes into conservative/Johnny ball. Think about last year, the game was horrible until the last part of the 4th quarter, and then im OT. Fulmer is afraid to lose to Bama, and thus we got off tackle plays every set of downs.

I was at the game and was one of the people booing but what I can say for phil that he is the master of the ugly win. We weren't booing when time expired.

I bet those recruits that were at the game loved the fact that Our fans would BOO thier own team during The biggest rivalry we have.

As much as I didn't like the play calling at the end of the game. I understand....painful memories came back of the Ole Miss INT that almost cost us the game.

Play calling at the end was understandable. Conservative, don't give up the big play (see above reference to Ole Miss), rely on your strong D to carry you home. However, the opening runs on first at the beginning of the game, the 3rd and long draw, and the dangerous pass that cost us an easy three are tough to swallow. Bama had all the opportunity in the world to steal this one, and we were lucky to get the win.

Yeah and they're getting tired of winning too I guess. Can't please veryone so why try? Fulmer's record speaks for itself. Sorry it's not good enough for you.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but since when did every failed offensive play result from bad coaching? I'm pretty sure that execution and good defensive play from the opposition come in somewhere. Not to pick on you Kiddiedoc, but in one sentence, you just complained about everything from conservative runs on 3rd down to a much more wide open decision to throw near the goal line. Your complaint may have some validity, but the point is that everyone is an offensive genius after the play is over with.

I'd love to see a wide open offense too, but the pick that Ainge threw at the goal line is precisely why the play calls were so conservative. People have to remember that no matter how good he may look at times, we are still playing a freshman QB who is going to look bad at times. Even Peyton Manning lost 4 times as a freshman.

E will get better with time. I know the passing game yesterday was pretty bad, but again, look at Alabama's pass defense. It's pretty damned good. Also, he can make the big play when it counts. And, he's thrown 8 interceptions this season, 4 of which were against Auburn.

So, I'd say he's still doing pretty well. He's got a decent completion rate in the toughest conference in the country, and he'll only get better in the next four years. Expect big things.

I am very impressed with the job E is doing as a starting freshman QB. I feel good about his abilities and possibilities. I think, by his junior year, he will be one of the greatest QBs in college football. We'll just have to see. :D

And we've got a great recieving team that will mature with him. I think UT's offense has the potential to turn into something to behold, but we will just have to wait and see.

Its not good enough for me! TOUGH IF YOU DON'T LIKE THAT! This offense and its playcalling has reverted to 2003 and if they call the same type of game this weekend they WILL lose by 2 TD's. Its horrid and UT fans and players themselves deserve better.

The funny thing is if CPF or CRS had called a pass play at the end that resulted in a int they would have been called crazy or incompetent. Conservative play calling my (rear end) is just what we did (yeah right) when we had the ball down near the goal line on 3rd and short and could have opened up a huge hole with a TD and threw a pass that was picked. When I see or hear people call what we UT does as conservative I have to laugh. Our D had picked their game up big time so CPF did the RIGHT thing. A W is a W. Way to go coach and players. Shame on fans for booing a young team (I know you say you were booing play calling but the kids didn't know that they see the caoching staff as part of the team) that plays their hearts out and wins when many had us finishing as far back as 4th in the east. I for one am VERY PROUD of this young team and what the coaching staff has done with it. GO BIG ORANGE

All right, all right Beef, settle down. I don't think anyone here is "booing the team." And GAVol, I never suggested that every failed play was the result of poor play-calling. My point is that it seems like we aren't quite sure what we want to do. I said that the calling at the end, especially, was understandable. But I don't see being so predictable at the beginning and I absolutely, positively will not agree that it was a good decision to throw the ball on the goal line. That COMPLETELY contradicts what even Fulmer said: that he was going to leave this one to the defense to finish. If that's the case, then you TAKE THE 3 if that's all you get and send the defense out with a 10 point cushion. Until E learns to throw that ball into the 3rd row of the stands, you can't risk it at that point.

Look, I've NEVER downed our team or the wins we've gotten. I think everyone is pleasantly surprised at our success given the preseason (and early season. . .) questions. I think everyone agrees that Ainge has looked exceptional at times. Everyone has seen the growth of our defense, particularly the secondary. This team seems to amaze me in a different way each week.

So, if the staff feels that our best chance to win is by keeping the ball "close to the vest," then let's do it. But don't put it in the opposition's vest on the 3 yard line.

I know people were booing the calls but the players won't see it htat way I guarantee you. They see this as a team and that includes the coaches. I used the pass on the goal line as and example of not being conservative with the play calling. I would have called a run as well. I think they did what they had to do. Bama was setting there in the end waiting for the short pass and EA read it amd made the right call to run. Good job boys! By the way I have no problem criticizing the coaches but booing our TEAM (coaches included) in our house is unacceptable.

:eek:lol:

I think that quote should be added to General Neyland's Game Maxims.

Doc, sorry if it seemed like I was picking on you.

I actually thought the pick at the goal line was a questionable play call too.

Better get used to it. As long as the Vols keep winning with those plays.... your going to keep seeing them. Its just a fact of life. Maybe the Vols will start losing for you so that new plays will be called?
