I love how...
...it was just a phone call out of nowhere. It felt so real. Every other show would have Logan clutching at his chest in pain and then cut to the phone call. It came out of the blue to us, just like it did for his kids, and we spent the first 30" of the call as confused as them. My wife was crying. I was in my feels a little. I don't "like" anybody involved but the show is so good at humanizing what are mostly completely unrelatable people, and they make you care. It's crazy.
Yep
I also liked how they never really showed him that much. They showed him on the ground from a bit off getting chest compressions but they never showed his face or anything. And his last words were basically just him doing business and planning and his normal day to day stuff, no ominous warnings or feelings. No telegraph of health problems like rubbing his chest or looking like he felt lightheaded. Just boom. And there's always great acting but last night should be their Emmy submissions. Them all just going from normal hating Dad and scheming to "Oh s*** this is happenng" and fumbling for words to say. Just awesome.
Just finished the 1st season, does it get better? Wasn't impressed at all, the 3 kids are the most irritating characters I can recall seeing in one show.
It does get a lot better but if you didn't like season 1, then the show is not for you.
Part of what makes the show great is that you don't "like" any of the main characters but the storytelling and acting are so good they have you rooting for them. If any of these people were in my real life, I'd stay far away from them, but almost nobody in my life is interesting enough to put in a show.
The show doesn’t utilize flashbacks, but the opening credits (and the resultant young adults portrayed) aptly display the disastrous upbringing. Four soullessly staring children playing at normal. Their whole life goal to gain the favor of their powerful father…who was never inclined to oblige (if capable). I loved the show immediately. My wife had to work up to it and was bought in by the middle of the next season. While a bit snarky, I'd have to agree. The kids being terrible are kind of the point. There are no heroes on this show really.
