Summit of Americas... but only for certain members of America

I mean who wouldn't be boiling over with rage that Cuba, Venezuela and Guatemala declined invitations to the party?

@Rasputin_Vol is looking to distract from the current administrations successful salvage and galvanization of its alliances with our NATO and EU partners. "Pay no attention to NATO growing, look Guatemala isn't going to come to a conference."
No genius, they didn't decline invitations, they were not invited. That is what started all of this.

I never said not to talk to them. I just said not having them at some conference isn't a big deal.
It's apparently a big deal to those other countries who are threatening to not show up because of it. That sounds like a pretty big deal if it's sparsely attended

I'm sure it will be devastating for us. Based on all the ranting I see on here about international apology tours and why do we care what other countries think, this sure does seem to be concerning to some unexpected people.

Of course it won't be devastating but it won't reflect well on Biden either. It shows a lack of leadership and an inability to rally countries in his own backyard. If he can't even do that, what good is he?

I think it's more we've been repeatedly told how good it is that the adults are finally back in charge but I'm not really sure I can tell a difference.

Sheesh, if they were invited, there would have been a thread about how the admin is communist sympathizers and the proof is the invitations to those countries.

Guatemala isn't attending a summit because Cuba isn't invited doesn't reflect well or poorly on anything to me.

That's ridiculous and pretty much only works if you are a small country exclusively surrounded by friendly nations. A world where China is the new world super power is unquestionably a world where we are weaker and poorer.
China will never reach that level. The US govt isn't respected because of how we meddle and destroy around the world. Our actual foreign policy needs to change and not just words. That is what makes us weaker

I'm not sure Trump's policy was a result of that issue, but if it was, what has changed? For all we know there could be more to that story and that's the reason Biden isn't extending any kind of olive branch. I'm not saying don't engage with them, I'm just saying I don't see this as a big deal.

Biden isn't extending an olive branch because someone in the DNC still hopes to gather the Cuban American vote this November. That block has shifted over time towards the center, but the majority still want tough actions against Cuba until they are "free."

It's a vote that's been courted for nearly 60 years. And with Florida being a huge swing State, both sides are going to take a hard line. Remember, Obama only cracked the doorway in his second term when he wasn't facing reelection.

You don't seem to have a firm grasp of the facts here. Cuba and Venezuela did not decline invitations. They weren't extended invitations. Read up on it a little more, then pop off

LOL, pop off? Who peed in your Wheaties?

I didn't realize how sensitive anyone would be about a distinction without much difference - thanks for clarifying the trivial. I stand corrected.

I think Biden has actually announced in the last few days that some of the restrictions on Cuba will be lifted.

No, it doesn't reflect well on the United States. We are a country of Karens and mean girls.

I’m not disagreeing with this (though I don’t think the first sentence is a given either way).

Back when I was picking beans in Guatemala we used to make fresh coffee... right off the trees.
