Even with the bad calls, Seattle should have been able to make this closer. They moved the ball, but managed to screw up in key situations and completely bungled the clock at the end of both halves.

Jerome Bettis just announced his retirement standing on the podium on national television while holding the Lombardi Trophy. I'm not sure you can go out in a better way than that.

I'm happy the Steelers won. Yes, the Seahawks got screwed several times but with all the hose jobs my teams (Panthers, Redskins, Packers) have taken from the zebras in the past, it's nice to have one go your way for a change. I'll take this one with no regrets.

Congrats to Bill Cowher. I was just as happy for him as I was for Bettis.

The only call the Seahawks really got hosed on/lost points because of was the Darrell Jackson TD in the first half. They still lost by more than 7, so it didn't matter.

I actually think the holding call on the pass down to the 1 yard line in the 2nd half right before the interception may have been worse.

I'm sure Cowher is a nice guy and is obviously a good coach, but he annoys me for some reason.

Just saw a replay of another questionable call. Looked like Seattle got another TD taken away because a receiver was ruled out of bounds even though he kicked the pyloin with his 2nd foot.

And there's your 14 points to win the game...

The refs should have painted the white stripes on their uniforms yellow.

Seattle 7-70

Pitts. 3-20

Those are your penalty yards for the game folks....What was the deal on Hasselback tackle?? They called that blocking below the waist when he tackled the guy WTF??? Yeah I wish the refs would have let a lot of the calls go in this game would have been a better game!

They should have painted them with dollar signs.

Jackson's foot was out of bounds the step before he kicked the pylon, I believe.

If it was that close, Holmgren should've challenged it. He was probably too busy figuring out how bad they could screw up the end of the half at that moment though.

He succeeded.

This was a complete hose job. I did nto even want to watch but my girlfriend dragged me to a SB party. I now officially consider the NFL to be on the same level as WWF.

I dont know if you guys heard but they decided to name co-mvp's for the super bowl. Hines Ward and the back judge in the end zone are goign to share it. I thought that was appropriate.

I may be the only one that thinks this, but I believe that official made the correct call.
The Seahawk reciever created seperation with that arm, and whether he pushed off with it or not, that is still a penalty.

If that was a correct call, then I've seen at least 5-10 of those calls missed every week thru the whole season. But the worst calls to me were the lame holding penalties that cost the Seahawks 2 scores. Those calls changed the whole game

There's no doubt that the calls benefitted the Steelers but reading this thread here are a few comments to keep in mind.

Myth 1) Seahawks totally outplayed the Steelers yet lost because of refs. Not True. Seahawks had 396 yards, Steelers 339. Steelers 8 - 15 on third down, Seahawks 5 - 17. Early in the game, the Steelers were outplayed but that evened out in the middle of the second quarter. Both teams had big plays (Seattle INT for 76 yards, Steelers run for 70 something). Steelers sat on the ball a bit after the Roethisberger INT while Seattle was playing from behind - passing typically generates more yardage.

Myth 2) Fourteen points were taken away and if this had not happened, the Seahawks win 24-21. Obviously not true. Four points were taken off the board (TD traded for field goal). Without the holding call, Seattle was at the one but not guaranteed points. 3 to 7 were likely but even with the 7 you still just get an extra 11 points total. Finally, Steelers game plan would have been different if they didn't have an 11 point lead.

Bottomline, better referees would have made the game better but to say the Seahawks would have won is simply not true.

No one can say what would've happened with better officiating but it was obvious that Roethisberger did not get the ball to/over the goal line on his sneak. I know it would've been 4th and inches but IMO even Cower would have taken the field goal after being stopped twice in a row on short yardage and goal. Give Seattle the TD from that lame a$$ offensive pass intereference call. Now you have a 17-17 game assuming nothing else changed. Now take away the questionable holding calls and I think it is pretty obvious why a lot of people think Seattle was jobbed by the officials. For some weird reason there have been a lot of games decided by bad officiating this year so I guess this should not come as any surprise.

Its always amazed that through the history of the NFL no one has ever been convicted of attempting to bribe an umpire before a big game.

The purity that this sport has been able to maintain over the years is admirable.

If the Steelers had been forced to put the game in Rothelisberger's hands, they would have been in trouble. Nobody is really talking about it since the Steelers won, but Big Ben was awful. Half their offense came on 3 plays. Props to them for getting it done, but everything really went their way last night.
