It's just a shame that the refs have to be even mentioned....that should never be the case in any game on any level in any sport!!

I think Ben's QB rating was 22! Seriously.
Lowest ever passer rating for the QB of a winning team in the Super Bowl...

In the end now that I've had time to cool down on it, Seattle lost the game. They missed out on some big plays, especially Stevens dropped balls. I counted at least 6 or 7 questionable (at least) calls, and I firmly believe that if the refs had gotten them right then Seattle would have won the game.

But in the end, I think GAVol said it best. This year's Pittsburgh Steelers are the ultimate team of destiny. They are unbelievably lucky that Roethlisberger made that tackle against Indy to prevent the touchdown, and that the opposing team in the Superbowl suffered the biggest hose job in NFL history. The Steelers were certainly not the best team in the NFL, but time and again fate favored them. It's always better to be lucky than good.

Give the Steelers some credit, they shut down the MVP and the Eagles like you said had several opportunities that they just blew and clock management sucked.

Nothing that happened in the Super Bowl was worse than the Polamalu INT call that could've cost the Steelers the divisional playoff game, so I don't wanna hear that the refs were in the Steelers' pocket.

The Steelers made the plays when they had to make them, all post-season.

Ron Jaworski just said on SportsCenter that the Colts were the best team in the NFL... complete joke, the Steelers whipped them up and down the field in the playoffs.

I give the Steelers credit too. The refs didn't give them a 3rd down conversion with 30 yards to go, or an incredible 75 yard touchdown run or make Stevens drop critical passes.

I never said the refs were in the Steelers pocket... I just said the game was poorly officiated and nearly every single bad call worked in the Steelers' favor. I'm not going to put it past anybody to pay off NFL referees, but I also know of no specific instances so I won't point any fingers. The refs in the Superbowl were terrible, plain and simple. The NFL needs to revamp its officiating.

Gotta give the refs credit, they were consistent... ly bad all year.

Looks like Porter might've got into Stevens' head... he caught that TD with no one around him, but everytime a Steeler touched him he coughed up the ball. Then other times they didn't even have to touch him. Dunno anything about Stevans other than his performance yesterday, but he certainly looked "soft," as Porter claimed.

That said, Porter was non-existant, other than that horse collar tackle on Alexander.

What a sad day... Pittsburgh has been outplayed all game and made more mistakes, and Seattle is going to lose this game in large part to a royal screw job by the referees.

Welcome to the SEC! Err...ahh...NFL.

Other than Stevens, Seattle's west coast attack was tearing Porter apart all day. With the exception of not punching it in and Stevens' greased gloves, that, friends, is what a properly-run west coast offense looks like.

well, obviously i'm happy. and after reading the whole thread, i can see that many of you have taken some of the same opinions as some others i've heard during post game wrap up etc...

Here's what i think. The refs played too much a role in this game. the pass int. call in the 1st qtr? i don't think you can say with 100% certainty either way. He did extend his elbow and forearm against the defender to gain separation, which by the letter of the law is a penalty. was it like he pushed the guy down, no. ticky tack, yes, still a penalty, yes.

Ben's TD run at the end of the half. not enough evidence is all you can say. But as a Steeler fan, here's what i thought at the time....it'll be 4th an an inch, less than two minutes in the half, your only down three, and you get the ball back for the 2nd half....go for it, and the bus gets a TD anyway. I know you can't say for sure he'd of scored on 4th down, we all know what happened in the Indy game as far as "sure things" go, but the %'s will say the Bus gets a TD from inches away from the goal line. good call, bad call, to me, it wouldn't have mattered. It woud have simply delayed the inevitable.

Holding call, in 3rd qtr? Hm, this one is tricky. the o line men did have his hands out side the shoulders as the defender made his move. again, technically, that's holding, was it like he wrestled him to the ground, no. ticky tack, yes, still a penalty, yes.

MH's chop block call...that was a bad call. But the Steelers had one called on them exactly the same way earlier in the year...turnabout is fairplay.

All in all, i'll be the first person to tell you that the refs were, uh, less than stellar. But i'll also be the first to remind anyone that the Steelers were one AWESOMELY HORRIBLE BAD CALL away from being knocked out of the playoffs agains the Colts. Bad calls are part of the game. We've had'em go against us in the past, and we've had'em go for us.

Bottom line is, the Steelers made the plays each and everytime they HAD to. Ben was terrible. but when you needed a 3rd down conversion late, he ran for it. When there was big play to be had, they got it. And the Defense played great. it was ugly. it was boring, except for three plays. but it was win, and i'll take it.

and, at the end of the day, all you can say is "HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!!!!!". :clapping:

'speck for the Steelers, they won the game...

But yeah, I think the refs definitley created an uneven playing field.

Despite my sig, I reiterate, the refs contributed to the outcome of the game but did not determine it.

i see what your saying, cause after all the refs didn't catch the erd and 28 bomb. the refs didnt' run a 75 yard td run....two big plays that really did it for the hawks. stop either one of them, and it's a whole different ball game, despite the refs.
