Tajh Boyd interview - thoughts on Tennessee

Seriously.......What kind of person in any position, especially a high ranking leadership position, orders beans and potato salad and doesn't make available any utensils?

Not only does this raise serious questions about one's ability to lead. It also raises questions about one's ability to function (common sense) or worse (do they have a motive).

While this is minor in regards to the frivolous and irresponsible contracts he awarded coaches, it certainly explains where his brain is (or lack there of...)

The contracts he gave to coaches heavily favored the interest of the coach and not the interest of Tennessee as an institution. Sound like others in leadership roles currently? Heavily favoring the interest of others and not of the United States?

Not to try to get all political. But it's a fair analogy.

I would hope that someone else besides the AD would be in charge of utensils and ORDERING the food. I understand "the Buck stops here" but a leader has to delegate.

I am not lying about this. It actually happened. I walked up to him in Thompson Boling Arena when it happened and personally asked him. He was the first person I saw that I recognized associtaed with the University.

I agree, I am sure someone else was responsible for the actual "ordering" of the plastic-ware. But, he didn't say someone dropped the ball and forgot.

His exact response was quote "We didn't budget for it"

That, my friend, falls squarely on him.

"We didn't budget for it" a response like this basically means that he was aware that there wasn't any accounted for and he knew of the problem and the mess it was going to create. Furthermore, it shows his lack of caring about it. That displays tremendous lack of accountability and leadership, which was later displayed when all of the frivolous contract info became public.

What a great interview from a sincere, talented and articulate young man. Makes me ill that he didn't come to TN and do the same thing here as he did at Clemson!

Boyd never would have started over Bray, so we would've seen him for 1 year, and it wouldn't have been the same.

He threw for a gazillion yards at Clemson. Good for him.

What? Gotta be joking? Boyd was twice the qb bray was, and twice the person. Bray might have never committed if Boyd was here. Kiffin killed us with that move.

well he did and won a championship too,not to shabby at all

One could easily argue that Peyton played a much better game at QB during UTs 62-37 loss at Florida in 1995, than Tee did vs Florida in our 20-17 win in 1998.

Cam Newton, Tajh Boyd, and Bryce Petty wouldn't fit into the Tennessee system but Crompton was the perfect fit. Still gives me a headache thinking about that.

Why does it matter now... Move on

It does matter. The future should always be the main focus... but looking back (especially in this instance) is instructive when looking to the future.

CPF final season was a tough one for Vol fans to take... and we (along with the athletic director & boosters) lost sight of the fact that (in Fulmer) we had a guy who knew how to "get it done."

We didn't look at the recruiting class he was working on... we didn't care that losing CPF meant losing Coach Chavis and the rest of that defensive staff who could recruit so well.

We, myself included, as fans were more than happy to "change our brand" & head off in a new direction. We were happy to trade good kids like Tajh Boyd and Bryce Petty for Bryce Brown, David Oku, Matt Simms & Tyler Bray.

We didn't know that the new direction was full of head cases, downright thugs, three head coaches and 4 straight 7 loss seasons. Now, we wish Hamilton had been man enough to stand up to... US... and stick with Fulmer until Fulmer either turned things around or could no longer (in good conscience) stick with himself.

Hindsight is always 20/20...and sometimes it's good for us.

Hopefully, next time we know that we have a good coach, our athletic department and we (as fans) stick with the guy, through thick and thin... Just as we expect a good coach to stick with us and not trot off to USC or Cal.

I assume you are talking about Bryce Petty as the 2nd one. He would have never been given the opportunity to prove himself here, the way Baylor did. Would have been recruited over.

I agree with you though. We didn't have any good options at QB, depth-wise, so it was insane to run off 2 QB's when you really NEEDED the depth and competition.

The worst decision Kiffin made in evaluating QB's was to turn away a phenom like Cam Newton, and choose instead, Matt Simms. That's 3 major, program killing guffs Kiffin made...well before USC came calling.

Ran across this article about Petty. Sure wish we had him wearing Big Orange after reading this.

What a solid guy. He would have been a great leader here but I think him going to Clemson worked out the best for him. What a shame.

Exactly.

So, Hambone should have pulled someone aside, handed them a tenner and told them to high tail it to Piggly Wiggly and get some plastic forks and spoons.

My question is: madbamahater, do you have a photo of Hambone eating potato salad and baked beans with his fingers? If so, send it to Clay Travis with the story and make it viral.
