i do not understand why Kiffin will take Jesse Scroggins but would not take Tajh Boyd .. after watching highlights of both Tajh and Jesse it looks like Tajh has the better arm, if Heaps commits elsewhere i think Kiffin will have wished he would have gave Tajh a chance because i think he will be a better qb down the road than Scroggins will

Why are we still talking about Tahj Boyd? He didn't sign here and won't ever play here. So oh well. I like Scroggins more anyways.

For the millionth time, Boyd wasn't going to play this year. He had knee surgery. Also, Scroggins is 3 inches taller.

I think it's kind of hard to tell who the better qb will be down the road. So much goes into that...who has the better brain? Which one will make better decisions under pressure?
Who is tougher? Who is surrounded by better talent? Which one stays healthy? How many playbooks and systems will they have to learn in a 3-5 year period?

Why should there be a vs.? Two different recruiting classes, two different staffs evaluating QB's, Tahj is shorter, Tahj is not going to play in '09, and who knows what Clemson's QB situation will be like in '10.

I think Scroggins has much more pro-style potential than Tahj did. I think Tahj will probably eventually be a solid player, but this debate is pointless.

absolutely. I'm guessing that Kiffin thinks he has a very good idea about some of these answers about each guy.

Boyd is a gimp, do your research.

Your right. He has a serious injury and will not be able to play this year. Kiffin stated this.

This came from an April 28th ESPN blog called "Boyd Back to Full Speed by July":
Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd (Class of 2009) was at the Georgia Dome on Friday watching his younger brother, running back T.J. Boyd (Seneca, S.C./Seneca) compete. Tajh said his injured knee felt good and that he should be back at full speed by July. If that's the case, he could challenge to get on the field this season.

Good call on the research bignewt...:eek:lol:

Jesse Scroggins 6-2/191
Tajh Boyd 6-1/210/4.60

looks to me like one ince differnce and Tajh is better built
if it is true about him being ready come july then kiffin may end up kicking himself

Simple answer is that Kif had Coleman in his back pocket when he told Boyd he would not play QB at UTK. Now the landscape is different. My guess is that neither Scroggins nor Heaps will be in Knoxville next year. Kiffin will get a good prospect relative to the pool of available talent, but I do not think it is one of the perceived frontrunners due mainly to the fact that any decent QB prospect is going to want to see what the UTK offense looks like before he commits. I think Heaps and Scroggins will be off the table before the UTK offense has a chance to prove itself.

Ifs and buts, beer and nuts...Taj Boyd would have given more depth, but if CLK had no intention of playing him, why waste the scholarship? Just wonder what he would have done if he could have foreseen Coleman leaving. No use crying now...focus on the future.

Did you read any of the replies? Boyd will NOT play in 2009 because of injury....move on!

Torn ACL vs. healthy. Oh and if anyone really thinks he's going to play as a true frosh and have a significant impact on the team 6 months after ACL surgery... there is no way.

Yep. And, if Coleman had quit in time for Kif to consider that as part of this year's recruiting, my guess is that Boyd would be packing for Knoxville.

It's also worth noting that a QB the caliber of Boyd didn't care that BJ was on the team as he felt he could outplay him.

This is one mulligan I wish Kiffin and Company could have to reconsider. BJ quit at a bad time for the team, but it is what it is.

And are we just comparing these two from the beginning because they are both black?

That would be a more reasonable question had UT superstar QB and team co-captain Condrege Holloway not obliterated the whole 'black QB" argument on the Hill over 3 decades ago.

I don't get what that has to do with what I'm asking?

I'm asking if the OP is comparing them because they play the exact same or the skin color, because UT is recruiting several qbs. It's not racist but why not compare him to Josh Nunes?

I'm really not trying to get in this debate though so sorry for saying anything.

Scroggins and Heaps are 2010 prospects. Nunes signed with Stanford in 2009.

I thought the OP was asking about Kiffin's decision to pass on Boyd, who was a serious 2009 UT prospect, to go after a 2010 candidate. He mentioned arm strength as a comparison and others were talking about other typical QB qualifications. You mentioned race, so I'm guessing that's why you got the racist comment from PJ.

I wasn't even thinking about race. I suppose you might ask why not compare Scroggins to Heaps instead of Nunes and then it would be more consistent with your concern that the OP is being a racist. Those comparisons have been ongoing.

My point was to say that race should not even on the radar at UT based on our history and that would still stand even if you used Heaps instead of Nunes to question the OP's motives.
