Tajh Boyd vs. Jesse Scroggins?

I doubt that it would ever happen, but probably wouldn't be a bad option.
He's definitely athletic enough! I think he would be a smart QB when the ball is in his hands. I think he would make good reads & take care of the football.
He is a very sharp kid & IMO, he would be a play maker & would help us more than hurt us. Could use some more height though.

I wonder if Kiffin saw the game film of UT vs Wyoming before he decided UT didn't need Boyd. Crompton was 11 of 27 and Stephens was 3 of 9 with 2 int's.

Nobody is saying Boyd is the next Peyton Manning, but is he better then Crompton and Stephens? Probably, Wyoming was 4-8 last year. Their other 3 wins were against North Dakota St, Ohio, and San Diego St who won 2 games last year.

Geez... what part of his knee surgery and his inability to help us this season is not registering with some of you people?

We only need a QB next year, not for the following years?

That's what I keep thinking when these posters keep talking about how he wouldn't be able to play this year. Exactly how is that a problem? I'm pretty sure he still gets all 5 years of eligibility.

He never wouldve seen the field (as qb at least) under Kiffin so what's the big deal?

i've never got him telling boyd he won't fit the system. When you have NO quarterbacks i think i would take the ARMY ALL AMERICAN MVP 7 days of the week. Anyone that says boyd is not as good as scroggins hasn't looked at either apparently b/c clearly Boyd showed that he can play w/ the big boys and will excel! I'm a big kiffin fan but not a real big fan of this move, it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

an Army AA with a questionable knee who won't see the field for another year is not really a help right now.

So what your saying is, if Boyd was healthy and since he is a "duel threat" QB, he couldn't have beaten out Crapton and Ginger?

It is my understanding that CLK told him that he could come but that he would not be considered for the QB position. How do you think he would beat out the other QBs playing as a WR or DB?

I'm guessing he would catch/int the ball and rifle it back at the QB who threw it?

Might want to check back and see how Crompton did in the All-American game. Tajh only threw 9 passes. He did well with those 9, but I'm not sure I want to say he's proven he can excel against the best. And anyway, over half his passing yards were caught by a guy that's headed to Tennessee.

from what I saw in the local writeups he didn't throw that much in HS either. Phoebus just ran over people

Someone posted a highlight video of his on VN several months ago. I didn't see what all the fuss is about. I thought Josh Nunes looked better.

Think I read somewhere that he threw it less than 50 times all season.

And about the knee, everyone seems to have their own source of information so mine is probably not considered any more trust worthy than the next but, from someone who I think would have gotten his their directly from the source, he may be back by Sept. Techncially back by the fall, I guess, but like others have stated, if I were him or Clemson I don't think you could feel too confident about rolling him out this year in any capacity.

Had a discussion with a friend about these two and his question was, "What's the difference?".

We can all do our best to break down the highlight videos we can see, the articles, stats, etc, but realistically if Kiffin and Co. are so high on Scroggins, what was it about Boyd that they didn't like? Lack of time to evaluate him maybe?

Discuss.

ooops...already a thread for these two I just saw. My bad. Feel free to merge.

However, ACL injuries aren't as bad as they used to be. Obviously there are many successful QB's with that injury.
