Take a moment to appreciate that 8-4 is basically worst case for a down year

Thank you for not hurling insults like a twelve-year-old like many on here. My thing is that we potentially could have had a better season with a real QB under center, and we never tried to find out what the other two could do.
And we could have potentially had a much worse season. You act like we have lost a bunch of games. We haven’t.

People need to come to terms with the fact that until you become an Alabama--a team who just has perpetual 5 star recruitment and the next guys up lying in wait--you're going to have some set backs year to year. ESPECIALLY during a rebuilding phase, which we are very much still in. To say 9-3 isn't good after losing a Heisman caliber QB and two NFL wide receivers? That's simply pouty delusion. You don't have to celebrate it, but we also don't have to be a bunch of try hards demanding playoff appearances every year.

It will of course be interesting to see how NIL changes these dynamics. No longer will the Alabamas be able to simply recruit and stash kids and keep them on the bench until their senior years.
But we aren’t 9-3 yet. We may end up 7-5 or even 6-6. UConn is the only guaranteed win on our schedule.

James Pearce is a Pruitt guy? Nimrod is a Pruitt guy? Arion Carter is a pruitt guy?

Bro all of Huep's guys are freshmen and sophomores and several of them are doing great for the playing time they're getting. Chill TF out.
No, I said defense recruiting has been solid. Who is a dude on offense that he has recruited at this point? Our 3rd best RB and 3rd best WR?

And Arion Carter, but it's a fair point he makes. Only having 3 or 4 high school recruits who look good in year 3 is a valid concern. Next year will be the real test. If we are recruiting well and developing talent like we should, we should have no problem replacing the seniors who will be departing soon.

Edit: But for now it looks to me like pretty much every position group is developing talent well. I'm still concerned about DB, however. Want to see Ricky Gibson III and Jordan Matthews continue to develop.
I browsed through the last 3 classes. If you don't count the transfer portal, it's not a good look. Jaylen, Dylan, and Squirrel are the only things of note to this point. Maybe we can survive with the portal. Lane does, but who in the world is going to start on the OL next year if they all go? Granted, the portal is the new normal in college football, but it's high-risk.

One great point is the new OC. Typically teams struggle on offense a little with a new offensive coordinator as well. The OC has to rebuild those relationships sometimes.
Just reading between the lines from the VQ guys. The system is Heup's system of course. It seems like Golesh had more push back to him if he didn't agree with something and also more demanding/animated during practice. Maybe a slight difference to keep in mind as time goes on.

9-3 or 8-4 is what I predicted preseason.

We aren’t last years team unfortunately
I’ve said the same thing all offseason that if Joe was the Orange Bowl Joe then 10-2 or a playoff team but unfortunately not. 8-4 should be where we land. I think we get by KY but lose to GA and Mizzou. I just didn’t figure us losing to FL. I figured A&M, Bama, GA, and KY. KY is starting g to fizzle out and Mizzou is better than I thought they would be.

How can you guys say this is a "down" year???

We lose 18 starters at the end of the season.. The entire secondary, most of the D line, our best linebackers, most of the O line, our TEs, etc. And don't say Nico, he hasn't played a single legitimate snap and he looks like he weighs 185 soak n' wet. I wonder how we'll protect him with the entire O line gone?

I repeat, we have to replace 18 starters next year. You guys better enjoy the ride this year because i have a feeling there's going to be a lot of grown men throwing temper tantrums around here next year when we're sitting at .500

Here's the depth chart for some of you to educate yourself on: 2023 Tennessee Volunteers Football Depth Chart | Ourlads.com
- NINE Defensive starters are seniors
- NINE Offensive starters are seniors (including Bru)

Bulldogs could lose to Florida at home.'Jacksonville",and lose to Kiffin. We would have the tiebreaker late in November. Difficult but not impossible

Maybe one regular season loss the rest of the year. I believe we could even win out. Georgia at home is a toss up, wouldn't bet against them, but would everyone else

With a real shot at 9-3…Just a few years ago we’d celebrate 9-3, this year after losing our Heisman contender QB, a first round right tackle, our top 2 WRs…You get the idea.

Stoked for the next couple years with a full team of Heup’s talent and a QB that was essentially hand picked for his offense that has had time to learn the offense and grow into his body.

The future is bright Vol fans.
Yay!! 2023 Vols went 8-4. Hang a banner!!! <blue font>

Heupel’s first class are now just true sophomores. This current team is senior heavy and pretty strong all around. I feel like there are plenty of young players contributing though. The biggest issue seems to be young guys ready to step up on the OL. Things look pretty thin there but next year will tell the tape on what kind of recruiter/talent evaluator Heup is when the young guys are forced into bigger roles

It's an instant gratification society ppl grew up in the drive thru world, if you will. Give an order pull up and get what you asked for. I want it now and I want it all, they think its possible because they all got a trophy growing up. Right now a good Arkansas team is 2 and 6 and has lost all 6 straight games as one possession games and they have had bad opportune Ref calls vs them akin to some of ours. I assume Pittman will be fired, its a tough league with 18-20 year old's and guys with stripes projecting your families career. Every year there are 14 teams, 16 next year and every year all these teams are trying their best to win but not everybody gets a trophy in the real world. Some will finish on top, some will finish in the middle, some on the bottom. It happens every Autumn as sure as the leaves turn color and fall.

Maybe you would celebrate 9-3. Some of us would not.
Most people are happy with the current state of the football program. Look at the number of likes your statement got versus the number of likes the original poster got.

Would you have say 5 or 6 years ago? Personally I still believe we can pull off a 10 - 2 regular season. That said, 9-3 is not a bad year either when you look at where this program has been since late in Fulmer's tenure.

Boys...uga will walk into a hornets nest. If you're still not hopeful for a 10-2 then please reconsider. And, since I am more convinced than ever that the sec predetermines games, us at 10-2, Bama and uga at 11-1, gives them more control and say so when bowl season rolls around. Always...always follow the $.
I have often wondered if that might be the case, but man, what a horrible thought if it is true. How exactly do you tell a player to lose a game on purpose?
