Talent Gap is closing (not there yet) and…

I think it will continue to close. However the last puzzle this staff has to put together is how to win big games on the road in hostile environments . They’ve done it twice (LSU 2022, OU 2024) I’m not counting Pitt, Kentucky/Vandy. It’s not an easy thing to do. But it’s what championship programs do. We shall see. If this game was played in Neyland I think we win a close one. The road woes continue to haunt us.
We are always just one year away lol. When will it end?

It’d actually be great if we’re only one year away as that means they figured it out next year with second year starter Nico lol
We’ve been one year away for 20 years. We haven’t won anything meaningful in a loooong time. Tired of this next year narrative lol. If we don’t make the playoffs this year we will be saying we are close next year lol. TrUst ThE PRoCeSs GUyZ

Vol football program is on the rise. Vols were not outclassed today. Instead, lost a competitive conference game against a top-tier opponent on the road.

I hope we see them again on a neutral field deep in the playoffs.

This is a bit silly.

2021 huge talent gap

2023 still a large talent gap.

2025 should be a more “equal on paper” matchup.
So by 2031-2033, maybe we can have a chance at beating them by multiple scores the way they do us every year.

I think next season is make or break for Josh Heupel. If our offense doesnt find some answers next season and improve and if we dont drastically improve penalties/undisciplined play...I dont know how you sell Heupel going forward.
An 11 win season is still on the table. That would give us a record of 31-8 (79.5% winning percentage) over the last three years. We haven't seen that kind of winning in about 20 years. You're absolutely off your rocker.

And yeah, I'm cherry picking the last three seasons because if any head coach at Tennessee truly deserved a "year zero" it's Josh Heupel.

Our best bet is going to be when everyone is down. None of those teams mentioned were good/great and even the Bama team we beat this year was not (that) Bama team. We just have to be there when everyone else has that down year.

I really don’t see how you are getting this. As far as recruiting goes for 2025 according to On3:
UGA has 3 5*, 18 4* and 3 3*. We have 1 5*, 13 4* and 10 3*. If you don’t think these things matter then you didn’t watch the game.

We have got to recruit better talent.

recruiting rankings ain’t the end all be all.

Our staff have hit on several 4 star and 3 star players that were just underrated. They’re pretty good at doing that. UGA still has an overall talent and depth advantage but it shouldn’t be anything that can’t be overcome with coaching. Hence why we beat Bama, they by far have more “talent” but we have enough to beat them with compent coaching. UGA and Bama have similar rosters.

However if you wanna go purely off ratings, our recruiting is getting better by the class anyways.

Michigan won a natty with probably an average 15th ranked recruiting class or some **** lol (yeah yeah cheating blah blah blah)

A championship culture where you expect to win the big game is the next step for this program. It took time to overcome a decade of suck which took a lot to overcome that culture and lowered expectation. We now have built a solid winning culture again with 10+ wins. Next is to breakthrough to a championship culture where you expect to win the SEC and really make a run at the National Title every year.

Winning is a culture that has a strong pull.
Most of the posters here are certainly of championship caliber, then. I read all week how we were going to dismantle Georgia on their home turf.

You think this is the same as we were with Dooley, Butch, or Cornbread? Nico is a good freshman QB, but not a Winston, Watson, Manzel type freshman. Us being in the national championship talk all year is certainly refreshing after worrying about bowl eligibility.

It’s not talent.

Our coaching staff as it is cannot beat UGAs.
UGA did not play well. Sloppy penalties…
Injuries at RB.

They were never in danger because our offense we will never threaten them unless it gets different.
Better.

The dream of every Georgia fan is for Florida to keep Napier and for Tennessee to fire Heupel. Preach, brother!

Speaking of the talent gap, I'll be very curious to see what we put on the field at WR and the OL next season....especially that OL. Hoping there are some youngsters that are way ahead of schedule at both positions.

What we got to do, is take care of job #1. Which is? STOP murdering ourselves with senseless, inexcusable penalties.

He seems to be stuck though and his offense looks like crap. If not for some amazing defensive performances this season, it's a rough year. Next year is year 5, does he look like a coach at the end of next season that can get us a SEC or National title? If not, how do you sell him long term?
Year 5 is all Heupel's product. I think it will be very fair to judge him based on what we see next season. Doesn't matter who is behind center if that OL stinks. Gonna be interesting to see what kind of line his buddy gives him to work with next year. If we have to go portal diving to field an OL next year, I pity Nico especially if Samson isn't around and our WR room looks even remotely like this years version.

This is simply not going to happen with a Heupel team. If Heupel had the answer, he'd have played that card by now. What disappoints me the most is that we continue to trot 74 out there. That we are so limited on the OL due to recruiting misses that we can't bench the guy is simply amazing in year 4. Not sure hiring your friends is wise for a college football coach.

Or can the whole thing and shell out money for more butch jones, Dooley, Pruitt coaching and 5 6 and 7 wins, hoping to squeeze out a bowl win. A lot of people forget where we were and how long we were there

It's on the players, not Heup.
