They can plan their own escape. It's been 20 freaking years

I get it. Let's go. The bus is leaving. You still don't leave scorched earth. I'm sure your view was different the way Lane Kiffin left comparing on a minute scale.

Wasn't this announced a year ago? Should have been ready in May right?

So you don't believe we should have left? Or are you suggesting that the way we left will hurt us creating allies in future endeavors?

I was comfortable with the advisor/air support role the military was performing, as it was very low risk and the only way to keep the Taliban from taking the country back. I would have also been fine with cutting our losses and handing the country back over to the Taliban if there had been an orderly withdrawal. But this isn't orderly, it's a cluster. Leaving Bagram in the middle of the night without transitioning it over to the Afghans was colossally stupid. Allowing the Taliban to take Tarin Kot, Kandahar, and Mazar-i-sharif without giving the Afghans air support was stupid. Leaving 10,000 civilians in the country was stupid. Having to beg the Taliban to allow us to safely evacuate is a major embarrassment.

Of course this will hurt with creating allies in future endeavors. But I'm of the opinion that there shouldn't be future endeavors like the one's we've been involved in the last 20 years. My biggest concern regarding foreign policy is that our adversaries will be emboldened (i.e. China/Taiwan) that could pull us into the future endeavors I would prefer to avoid.

Give me a link. I'm not tracking this.

My brother is in administration.
He was given 9 days to close and evacuate his base.
He told them it could not be done. This order was a complete surprise BTW. He was told to “forget procedure and get it done” he was also told “by order of the president they were leaving Afghanistan by 8/31” he told me that following procedures he could not close his base by 8/31 much less 9 days.

Let me ask you this. Do you really think it’s SOP to leave all the equipment…..not be sure you got everything sensitive ….. and forget to tell your allies you’re leaving?

don’t answer. This is all coming out soon enough. We can revisit then.

We didn’t leave “all the equipment”. We left what was supposed to be used for the ANA. I know that for a fact. Stop with the freaking exaggerations and dramatics.

I don’t need to know where your brother was, but based on the places I was, the austere and expeditionary locations absolutely could be closed in a matter of a single week with everything pulled out. I know all the big FOBs, outside of Bagram, were closed in the months leading up to July, with plenty of time to complete the pack-up.

The last remnants of our footprint and the very last ones to leave was always going to be done quickly and on the fly. But I guarantee (because I actually worked it from the states) that SOP was absolutely followed and ample time was given for the larger locations to close shop. The embassy obviously being the last one.

I've addressed it at least twice and you likely even quoted it to rant about what Biden didn't say to you

You understand this goes way back before Biden?

But let me make sure I've got the facts straight. They were one of the controlling factions in a civil war when we invaded. We banned them as did the new regime in the aftermath, but they kept fighting against invaders in their homes. Furthermore, they enjoyed a significant amount of support from the population in order to survive as a coherent force for 20 years of our occupation.

They oppose us, the sitting government and, again, enjoy enough support they were able to overrun the country in a matter of weeks. Of course we're going to call them terrorists.

Regardless, you ignore the fact we only label those we're stronger than as "terrorists" and avoid using that term with nations and leaders that are guilty of far worse crimes against humanity.

Lol, stupid is thinking I'm toting Bidens water. Im just laughing at the clowns who suddenly give a sh*t that American foreign policy looks bad.
Personally, I don't care about our foreign policy looking bad. It's not about "optics" for me. It's about putting American lives unnecessarily at risk, and making then breaking promises to the people who helped us. Biden got reckless with American lives in play. This is the same problem I had with Benghazi when it happened. We're not talking soldiers sent to fight a war. We're talking about civilians put in the line of fire because our government either got careless, or they could simply care less.

But Trump.
And this is sadly true. Biden is getting flak, but just imagine the shitstorm in the media and on the left if this had been Trump? The coverage would in no way be equal.

But, this bad of a fubar, it's absolutely wrong, no matter who is in the WH, and that's reflected by the outlets that normally defend Biden speaking up about how messed up it is.

Is it not scary that folks high up in our gov. either, didn't see this coming, or just didn't give two f***s.
