Then at 6:45am local time, a missile was fired at the drone, but missed. The U.S. military said that it was a modified SA-7 fired from Iran’s mainland. It was fired on after the drone arrived on station to assist the Norwegian tanker.

Doesn't seem to say much about their competence when they can't manage to hit a drone that size with a SAM. Of course, infrared guidance probably isn't the weapon of choice against a drone, but that decision to try again goes back to competence.

The video you're referring to has to be declassified just like the grainy video. The grainy video is for the public. I bet that drone can read the writing on a cigarette.

So, they made it fuzzy to protect the innocent? I'd be more impressed if it could read the writing on a boat.

A more logical explanation would be that it was far away and didn't want to be shot down.

Then why didn't the drone (or the people watching the drone footage at the time) neutralize the threat right then and there?

There are only two answers to that question: negligence or they were fully aware of it.

Nobody in the military wants to make a decision and lose his/her job. All you have to do is look at Military. com; it's full of stories about officers being relieved without an incident even being investigated. That simply leads to inaction because doing nothing is safer.

The higher ups may not want us interfering in a covert operation... That could lead to friendly fire where Americans would be attacking Americans (or American sponsored mercenaries).

If the Iranians actually did fire on the drone, then the drone would have video footage of that, correct?
