Tarik Black interest

Keith Easterwood said on radio tonight that Vandy is a sleeper for Black. They are close, good academics, and they are telling him he can be a final piece for them. They are evidently getting another transfer, but Gary Parrish still doesn't think Vandy will be good.

One is from GW, the other Memphis...I highly doubt he matches those numbers from
GW next year at Memphis.

Probably not but he should be a serviceable 4. He sat out his senior year due to wrist surgery. They're still looking at other bigs as well.

No idea where Black ends up. Vandy makes sense. They need frontcourt talent.

Wish UT had a spot for him as Maymon insurance, but alas.

The other transfer is a PG I believe, and the reason that Darius Thompson opened his recruitment back up and fell to us.

Kansas and Duke will both be in Memphis to visit Tarik pretty soon.

He's getting some good looks from strong teams.

Not sure I buy this but...

“@GoodmanCBS: Memphis transfer Antonio Barton getting heavy interest thus far. Maryland, Kansas State, Texas A&M, Tenn. Also told Syracuse may be in mix.”

That is odd, for a few reasons. Why would Memphis release Barton to TN, when they apparently wouldn't release Black? Who else would Tennessee cut to make room for him?He has graduated so would be eligible in 2013-14. You're already going to have to cut one more if Stokes stays. To get Barton, you'd have to cut two more. Not saying that would be a bad thing, but cutting three guys in one off season is not something you see every year.

Was this confirmed? It seemed like people just assumed Black couldn't come here because he wouldn't be released to anyone on the schedule, and then people realized that we're not on their schedule anymore.

Landry won't be here, so we'd only need one more spot. Considering how desperate Tennessee is for consistent PG play, I'd take Barton in a heartbeat.

I never saw where Pastner wouldn't release black to Tennessee, the only restrictions I saw were teams on Memphis' schedule next year and Tennessee isn't (at least as of now).

That's why I said I don't know that I buy it, I mean there's definitely candidates outside of Stokes (Landry & Edwards come to mind) that can be cut, but it's rare you see that much attrition in an off season.

With that said, I would definitely be for the move....ball handling has been an issue, we added Thompson but I wouldn't rely on him too much as a freshman. If you could bring in an experienced guard, who is only costing you a scholarship this year, that would be great. The reason he's leaving Memphis though is PT, don't see too much PT available for him here.

Not so sure about that. Plenty of backup PG minutes available. You could play Thompson at 2 this year to ease his transition into college. Just a thought.

Hubbs, Richardson and McRae will have the 2/3 locked down, golden is gonna get 30 minutes at point, so you're saying 10-15 minutes a game looks appealing to Barton? He left Memphis because of playing time where he was getting 16mpg.

If you get a guy like Barton, you could cut Golden's minutes to 20 and maybe avoid the mid-season swoons he's had the last two years. Apparently 30 minutes wears him down and makes him susceptible to nagging injuries. And if he does miss a few games, you don't have to rely on a freshman. That's the way I'd sell it anyway.

I agree, I just have to imagine he sees Tennessee as returning a senior 2 year starting PG who has averaged 30+mpg the last 2 years...from the outside it looks much like the situation he just came from.

Barton would come in and challenge Golden for the starting PG spot. The kid is that good. Golden may beat him out, but Barton would give you 25 good minutes off the bench with the way UT's back court is right now.

But he's not considering UT. I'd expect him to land at Maryland.

So you say Golden may beat him out for the starting spot, but then would only get 15 minutes as the starter?

Same guy tell you that about Barton not considering UT that said Stokes was staying in Memphis and not returning to Knoxville? Or the one who said Leron Black is a Memphis lock?

Golden? Golden would probably get 30 minutes, split between the 1 and 2 spots.

Well, a UT fan made the post about Stokes staying in Memphis.

I haven't heard anything about Leron Black being a Memphis lock. I'm not even certain that he has a Memphis offer.

But Brooks is the one who said he (Barton) wasn't going to UT, he's pretty solid. Are you mad about it? Sounds like you guys don't even want the kid.

Nobody besides McRae/ Richardson/Hubbs will be logging minutes at the 2/3...that position is log jammed, there's probably not even enough minutes for those 3 at those spots, never mind adding golden or Barton into the mix.

No not mad at all, I think he would be a good addition, just don't see him coming here...he's leaving Memphis because he was getting 16mpg, I don't see much more than that available to him here.

Well, he'd be leaving Memphis for a much less talented back court (no offense).

And you're welcome to your opinion on who would be in what rotation in this imaginary scenario. Ridiculous to argue about.

What evidence do you see that McRae or Richardson would lose minutes to Barton? Or that Barton would beat out a top 20 recruits for those backup minutes?

Richardson? Barton would get more time at the 2 then Richardson. Richardson can play the 3 well.

PG: Golden 25/Barton 15
SG: McRae 15/ Hubbs 15/ Golden 5/ Barton 5
SF: McRae 15/ Hubbs 10/ Richardson 10/ Cheivous/Reese/Whoever 5

If I have to spitball it. Have you had enough fun in Imaginationland for today?

So 2 year starter Josh Richardson, who Martin loves is going to go from 30 minutes a game to 10 minutes a game? Gotcha
