Tavarres Jefferson

Seems more like a RB that throws it sometimes to me from those stats.
He was a running back the past couple of years. He also played some defense. The guy is a great all around athlete.

Ensworth grows up quickly with win | www.tennessean.com | The Tennessean

"This is big," Ensworth senior Tavarres Jefferson said. "But we can't let this get to our heads."
Ensworth (6-0, 3-0 DII-AA East/Middle), which entered last week ranked No. 2 behind MBA (5-1, 2-1) in The Associated Press state poll, trailed 28-27 entering the fourth quarter after letting a 21-0 second-quarter lead slip away.
But Jefferson sealed the win with 15- and 46-yard touchdown runs.
Jefferson (197 yards rushing, 118 passing) and Opoku-Darkwa combined to score all six of Ensworth's touchdowns and had 501 rushing yards on 45 carries.

ATH TAVARRES JEFFERSON (5-9/175), Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth
TAVARRES-JEFFERSON-PIC-100.JPG
»SIMMONS' PLAYER OF THE WEEK

COMMITTED TO: Undecided; has offer from Middle Tennessee in both football and basketball
PERFORMANCE: Made some plays on both sides of the ball while quarterbacking Ensworth to a dominating win over Pope John Paul II.
STRENGTHS: Jefferson may be one of the most underrated prospects in the entire region. He has great change of direction, quickness and acceleration. He is very difficult to tackle in space and is a competitor. He was injured as a junior and should see his stock rise as his senior film is distributed.
WEAKNESSES: At 5 feet 9 and 175 pounds, Jefferson is a tweener. He could project at cornerback, running back or slot receiver, but he doesn't have the ideal body for any one position. He also doesn't have elite top-end speed. – B.S.

But the Blue Raiders want to sign three in this class and they appear to have a strong focus on Nashville Ensworth star Tavarres Jefferson.

"MTSU calls me every week," Jefferson said. "Coach Stephens and Coach Stockstill are both on me ... They told me that if I signed I could go on campus right away and (compete for playing time). They tell me all the time that I am at the top (of their board)."

The Blue Raiders join one other school on Jefferson's offer list right now but plenty of other programs are keeping close tabs on the 5-foot-9, 190 pound standout.

MTSU is getting some pretty good players.....i think they got a real steal in Jones and Seamster.

I read TJ is visiting Knoxville this week. I do not know what his prospects are for an offer. Greyshirt a possibility? So far as I know, MTSU is the strongest suitor but I have heard that if his ACT goes up a couple of points he would have offers from Duke and Vandy. I'm curious to see if he is listed in the revised Tenneseee top prospects list that will be out on Rivals today or tomorrow.

MTSU's rivals site reported that he is visiting. Hubbs is checking for confirmation.

It would add an extra dimension to my enjoyment of Vol football for the next few years were he to make the team and eventually contribute. Just interested to see what the hometown kids do.

Lets just says this. I would hate to see him at Vandy. That being said, he should go to Duke or even Wake.

Hillbilly, Ensworth didnt even exist when you were in school

Not the high school anyway. I have some friends whose kids attend there so I've followed thier sports programs a little bit. BTW, CPA did not have a high school when I was in school either.

I think Seamster has only played organized football for two years. Very fast. If he had a few more years of experience he could be a Rivals 250 guy. Syracuse has called asking about him recently but I think he is sticking with Middle. They have a pretty decent class coming in.

He is definitely a sleeper. I have no idea how he is only a 2 star or only the 22nd-best player in tennessee. He has played against and usually dominated some of the better competition in Tennessee, played through several fairly substantial injuries, and won Mr. Football despite playing out of position. Our RB put up better stats but Tavarres was our unquestioned leader. He helped establish the program (this is only our second senior class) from a team that got pounded by Marlon Brown and Harding to the Rivals High Super 100 as the best team in Tennessee, for a while. Now most of this doesn't matter much as far as recruiting, but I will also say that he plays MUCH faster than 4.55. Marlon Brown is listed at 4.5 and T looks much quicker on the field. I guess he has football speed more than track speed. And when he played RB, he absolutely dominated. He is the shiftiest player I have ever seen to go with underrated speed and underrated strength as well. I remember on a punt return, I think, he ran from one side of the field to the other and literally juked out all 11 players on the other team (one at a time, of course). Or at least I know it was 11 moves, some of them may have been the same players trying to come back at him I'm not sure. But I'll try to find it.

That said, I don't think MBA has anywhere near the type of defensive athletes as say...Alabama. Tennessee is not a particularly strong high school football state. But Tavarres is someone that I would want on my team no matter what.

That's quite the recommendation...I did like his rivals video. You can see just how quick he is. I just wish that they had more film on him because it's hard to judge with him behind center. Although, with what I did see, I would still be excited if UT offered and he signed.
