Tayven Jackson in the portal

This is not surprising at all. He's doing what's best for him. His chances of playing time are slim. Best of luck to you Tayven if you do in fact transfer.

This sucks man because I do believe he will be a good QB.

On his end though, you have Joe starting next year more than likely. Then you have a 5* QB that's getting a ton of attention from fans and probably getting millions more in NIL so you would have to think, that he is thinking Nico will at least get a chance to start at some point.

You look at the success stories of QB's waiting it out and it makes you wonder though. In this scenario a healthy Milton next season is very important. Tayven probably just wants to play, hate it for us but I don't blame him. Hopefully he goes to USF, he's been liking Alex Golesh's post about coming to play at USF and he would know the system Alex wants to run. It would be a win/win for both of them.

I think the new norm will be having only 2 scholarship level QBs with the portal like it is. You are going to need guys like Moore and Shuler who could come in for a series or two in emergency but understand they won’t be starting or playing except in that role.

Not sure if mentioned already, bc I'm not going to look through the whole thread, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him follow Golesh to USF.

It’s going to be extremely hard to stack QB depth in the era of the transfer portal. You can only play one QB and not many, whether right or wrong, want to wait their turn and compete. And I can’t blame them! You get 5 years and that’s it. It does feel like you are going to see Gaston Moore style 3rd string QBs for most teams not named Ohio State, Georgia, or Alabama.

They really should do away with the use of the word "commitment".

No reason to be mad at this kid, this was a good move for all parties. I'm sure he saw Milton's Orange Bowl performance and fans chanting "Nico! Nico!" (metaphorically speaking, no one actually chanted that) and realized he probably isn't going to see much action here.

makes one question in this day and age whether a recruit is ever truly committed to any school
Like (ideally) every student entering college, he is committed to, and investing his time and effort toward, his personal goals for the future.

As a fan, I'm concerned about what his leaving does to our depth at QB. I do not expect Nico to be ready to win top-tier SEC games in his freshman year in this offense.

But as a human being, I can only hope that he got good information from every reliable source before making this decision. I thank him for choosing Tennessee, and for everything he has contributed to the team.

Transfer portal & NIL leaving their mark on college football. Folks, we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg.:cool:

Who said I was mad at him? I meant that as a statement for today's generation in general. Good luck to the kid!

I hate to see it - wanted to see more reps with him. So, do we recruit a transfer QB with a year left?

It used to be there were special community colleges which fed prepared players to the D1 schools.

Now, with the portal, the better D1 schools are feeding prepared players into the smaller programs. With time, maybe parity increases.

Why does anyone think we can find a good depth QB in the portal? Any QB there is looking for a place to play, just wants to put SEC on his job resume or is looking to get into coaching and a grad assistant position. When looking at our depth chart, no one with SEC talent will be looking to transfer in. 2-3 years ago, maybe, but not now
