Not true at all.

Which part?

If it's where the student body lives, there's a big map in the UC that can make it obvious for you.

If it's the selling of the student section, I wasn't there but unless our students have aged dramatically during the break then yes, behind the goal they did.

So I come from Charlotte (yes, the team that beat the vols the other night). Basketball is king in Charlotte. Because of that and the fact that I used to help lead the students, well lets I know a thing or two about noise.

I was EXTREMELY excited about basketball season starting in Tennessee (here for grad school) - afterall, the Vols are now my second favorite time (have to stick with my undergrad as number 1). I've been extremely disappointed in the students at Vol games.

I've been to every game at home (except those over break) so don't criticize me for not showing up. But I do want to point something out - students don't do ANYTHING when we have the ball. I feel like I'm at an NBA game - I can actually hear the floor squeaking when the guys move their feet! That SHOULD NOT HAPPEN.

So heres what needs to happen. Enough students show up to make noise - I know that for a fact - but they need to start chanting during offensive sets. THERE SHOULD NEVER BE A MOMENT OF SILENCE.

Now don't give me the crap about "we're not a basketball school" - when you have a top 25 team consecutive years and you knock off the #1 team in the nation, guess what, you've turned into a basketball school as well as a football school.

And the excuse about having an NBA sized arena is crap as well. That shouldn't matter. 2 Facts:
1. Charlotte has played 3 games in Time Warner Cable Arena (home of the CLT Bobcats) - 2 of which were over Christmas break so student turnout was LOW - none of them resulted in a "quiet crowd" - the Vols found out about that last week. P.S. That wasn't even a great student turnout, especially considering it was a top 10 team.

2. I've been known to yell something out during the Vols games this year. Half the student section has laughed before. If they can here me yelling all alone - what do you think they would sound like in unison? They could be a force. Noise travels in that arena.

I say this because I love being a Vol. I'm so happy to be part of the Tennessee family. That said I want to see the atmosphere meet its full potential. It doesn't matter the opponent, Kentucky, or dare I say Indianapolis, we should be loud. It makes a difference - I was part of that difference at Charlotte for 5 years. It means a lot to the players and will make TBA a really tough place to play. I promise.

Go Vols, Go Niners.

I Go Vols, Go Niners.

There is the problem, if the student section finds that starting chants is a laughable prospect then we have a long way to go when it comes to changing the attitude of said students.
