TCU overrated?

TCU is most deserving of a spot in the playoff if they go 13-0. But they will not be 1 of the "best" 4 teams in the country in the playoff.

And that is a balance the CFP has to handle. Like last year, Cincy was not one of the best four, but they deserved a spot in.

TCU's season reminds me somewhat of the 98 vols. At lot of close games, they were outside the BCS looking in up until the very last week when a couple teams lost above them. Still they were the only unbeaten team and underdogs to FSU. Fulmer said you don't have to be the best team in the country, just the best on the field each week, or something like that. That being said, hopefully they will lose before the final selection.

Are you thinking 2001? Tennessee was #1 in 1998 in early November before the Arkansas game.
I believe 2001 might be when a bunch of magic dominoes fell

I wouldn't say Tennessee was on the outside looking in, in 1998. Tennessee became the #1 team in the BCS the week of the Arkansas game, and they stayed #1 until the end of the year. Everyone was worried that Tennessee might get left out of the national championship game if both UCLA and Kansas State went undefeated. That was possible, but Tennessee was #1. If all 3 went undefeated that year, Kansas State most likely would have been left out. UCLA's SOS that year was one of the best in the country, and UT was #1 in the AP poll. KSU never got higher than #3 in the BCS.

Kinda reminds me of that Ohio State team that beat Miami in the national championship... when was that, 2001? They just keep winning close games against teams they should beat comfortably so people keep expecting them to lose, and expecting them to lose... and they just keep winning.

This is why the playoffs need to be expanded. You need to reward the teams for having a magical season while also putting every team in that could even possibly win it all.

They are overrated in the sense that they are probably not a top 4 team. But Finebaum goes way too far claiming 'advanced analytics' predicts every top 10 team would crush them. Sagarin has them at #9, one spot ahead of LSU. They'd be maybe a 6-8 pt underdog to Michigan and Tennessee.

The case that TCU is a top 4 team is weak based on advanced analytics, but they are still a very strong top 8 / top 10 ish type team.

😂 legit to what? Their potent offense got held down by Texas. Now imagine what Georgia does to that team. Tcu isn’t one of the four best teams in the nation; hell they’re likely not one of the eight best teams in the nation.
We will see if they get into the playoff you can’t deny they don’t deserve a playoff spot if they go 13-0 and win the Big 12

Maybe confusing the two, its has been over 20 years :). Its been a long time; it is very fun being there again, following the drama each week as it unfolds.
