Team News (current roster)

Surprised to see no mention of Etienne, either good or bad. He seemed to be someone we identified pretty early and offered.

Seems like the Charleston Classic is likely to get cancelled at this point. No idea what this means for Tennessee's schedule now.

It was moving to Orlando anyways, they are likely going to create a bubble situation for the teams that remain opted in. There’s multiple events that got moved there, and multiple teams have withdrawn, so seems likely they’ll just restructure with the teams still wanting to play.

I know it’s heading to Orlando, but I’m referring to the fact that only 3 teams are still committed to play in the CC even after its move to the bubble. Seems significant and likely means this tournament won’t happen and will instead just be replaced with something else entirely.

That was already the case was my point...all the ones being moved to Orlando were likely to be redone due to teams dropping out.

Sounds like CBB is like it to do that same as football and that their year won’t count towards eligibility....if that’s the case I’m sure Pons is gone, but I do wonder about Fulk & Anosike, I could see 1 or both potentially sticking around another year. That would really change the outlook in the post for 21-22.

I really think both would like to return if given the option.

Either Walker is shorter than advertised, or Pons is taller than advertised.

24 and 32 look like HS freshmen.

Walker, Pons and Anosike all look the same height...I say split the difference and call them all 6’7”...all three have the perfect height, athleticism and skill set to play the flex 4 IMO

The scholarship count would be altered, too?

Perimeter depth. The Vols boast a terrific power forward/center combo in Yves Pons and John Fulkerson, but the strength of Rick Barnes’ team may be its ability to remain skilled and versatile. Tennessee brings in two five-star freshmen in Jaden Springer and Keon Johnson, who stand at 6-4 and 6-5 respectively to go along with a pair of returning guards who boast good size in Santiago Vescovi (6-3) and Josiah-Jordan James (6-6). Oregon transfer Victor Bailey is also a capable college veteran at 6-4 who will have a significant impact while Sacred Heart grad transfer E.J. Anosike brings experience and grit at 6-7. That’s six different players who stand between 6-3 and 6-7, not including the 6-6 Pons who heavily debated entering the 2020 NBA Draft before returning to school. The Vols have the makings of an elite defensive team with interchangeable pieces who can guard multiple positions. It’s just one of many reasons why Tennessee is viewed as the team to beat in the SEC.

If Vandy and GA are in the basement it’s going to be a very competitive league. Hopefully the top 2 are far better than the rest and 3-14 are interchangeable.
Just a hunch, but first impression is that Missouri is too high. South Carolina at 5 is pretty bullish, but they return a lot. I think the top 4 are accurate, and exactly how I'd have them, too. Bama and Auburn are right below them. Arkansas lost their three best players, but replace them with a really good freshman class that includes 4 4* players. To me, they are a bit of a wildcard. Could finish 6th, could finish 11th.

Georgia at 13? Isn’t this Crean’s 3rd year? Sheesh.
Yeah, if they finish 13th, he will likely have one more year to make a serious move up the standings in Year 4 or he won't see a fifth year. Has to help us with Jabari Smith, you'd think, especially if he waits until spring and UGA flops.

Would you say Crean has legit underachieved? I wasn't expecting perineal top 3, but better than what he has produced.

Definitely underachieved last season with the talent he had. Not sure how his first year went but we did beat them by 50.

He, like many coaches, is a victim of the one-and-done rule. He recruits a great player, and then loses him after a season. That sucks for coaches at a program where they are trying to gain traction to build a program.

So, the key for Crean will be can he develop the other four 4* players in that class, as sophomores. His 2020 class consisted of 1 top-100 player and a bunch of JUCOs and transfers, so it is really on that 2019 class to develop and save his job. He currently has six 4* players on his roster. If he can't finish higher than 13th with that, he's done.
