Life must go on and you can’t cram 5 classes into 4. Hs seniors can’t get their years back so college kids shouldn’t get theirs either.
Life sucks right now for a lot of people but you can’t stop time
I don’t really have a problem with the NCAA giving everyone another year but I do question their rationale some. Assuming things go as planned for the SEC the players will get to play 80% or so of a regular football and basketball season. That’s pretty close to normal and their will be some unintended consequences for a lot of players. Even if they raise the scholarship numbers for a couple of years Eventually colleges will have To get back to 13 and it could create a bit of a logjam that could impact marginal scholarship players. For schools considering limiting seasons even more maybe give players an opt out for the year but don’t allow them to play and get an extra year. Just seems like a bit of an o er reaction to say all players get an extra year of eligibility no matter what.

Lol all you want, it’s going to happen and everyone will be just fine.

Everyone won’t be fine with it.

I have had numerous conversations with hs kids and their families recently that Don’t have the options they should have. Just last night a friend of mine mentioned to me he might reclassifying his kid to a class behind to allow this mess to settle down. High school kids are getting killed in all sports now if this happens.

As with most things people are making it a bigger deal than it is, not every kid is going to return...it’s like kids redshirting, should that be outlawed to?

This topic is casing major issues in other sports but I agree it won’t be as bad in hoops as some

Very different than RS and that at least something all parties knows what’s going on with

I agree. Not everyone that is granted an extra year of eligibility will be given the opportunity to come back. Some will be encouraged to transfer. It will be like Renaldo Woolridge at Tennessee. He got hurt early on his senior year and never played again once he was heathy. (Why he refused to enter the NCAA Tournament game) Tennessee didn't want to honor his scholarship for a fifth season so he was encouraged to transfer.

I’m curious if the uncertainty of eligibility counting/not counting changes up recruiting philosophy for this year? Theoretically next year, 2021-2022 you could have (assuming Pons is gone)...

Chandler(fr)/Bailey(jr)
Springer(fr)/Vescovi(so)/Mashack(fr)
Johnson(fr)/James(so)/Gaines(so)/Pember(so)
Anosike(sr)/ORN(so)/Walker(fr)
Fulky(sr)/Plavsic(so)

ORN, Walker, Plavsic, Gaines and Pember are not threats to leave early for NBA, so if the staff likes the potential of those guys getting the extra year of development does that change the needs a little in the post? Gonna be interesting to watch how they handle recruiting the rest of the ‘21 class, I’m guessing they’ll be pretty picky, wouldn’t seem like they’d want to probably reach on a guy needing development.

Thay last sentence is key. Anyone they bring in, especially a post player, needs to be ready to contribute immediately.

I would say that the recruiting philosophy has shifted mightily, assuming that eligibility this year will not count. Originally, I wouldn't have been shocked if we signed 5 players in this class. Now? I wouldn't be surprised if we're done (assuming Smith picks Auburn). We might grab 1 person on the graduate transfer market, but that's about it. I think COVID could potentially also make Springer & Johnson rethink leaving early for the draft, but that is highly dependent on MANY factors with what happens to the 2021 draft and how many players opt-in or opt-out.

I think everything is up-in-the-air at this point, and to be decided. Not only does this incoming class and current Vols have to make some decisions, but these players in the 2021 cycle have to do some hard work in deciding not only where the best place for them to play basketball is, but also from an elite player's standpoint, what makes the most "business sense" for their future.

Wonder how an extra year of eligibility will affect records? Could a 5th/6th year player blow by some career scoring records or other career records? If Fulk returns, does he become close to the winningest player in UT history? Just thinking out loud, do some records potentially set next year get an asterisk?

I imagine that after a few years people will forget about any asterisks. Records have been broken that may not have been if freshman didn't originally have their own teams, in football bowl games statistics being counted made it so a lot of records became more breakable. Also in football the new rule where you can play four games and still redshirt will affect career records. It just happens

It tells u what forum each thread is in, u just have to read the whole thing or it does on my phone. I'm not trying to be a d!ck, it took me a while to notice, also and I still overlook it, occasionally

Not exactly exciting matchups. It's unfortunate that our pre-season tournament had a bunch of teams drop-out. But I guess you'll take what you can get at this point!
