Yeah, we will win a lot games, this year. Maybe hang some banners. I knew UT was going to be good Grant's junior year, but they exceeded my expectations. Bullsh!t call kept us from an Elite 8. Anyway, I'm more excited about this team, I think Keon is going to be really specialI'm hoping JJJ makes a big jump this season, I think he will. I'm excited about all the newcomers as well.
The way scholarships will work is returning seniors won’t count against 13 scholarship limit, so we have room to bring in 3 players at least regardless of what the seniors do or other attrition.
Transfers however will count against the 13, similar to how a transfer always has...so if we were to take a senior wanting to play another year they would count against our 13, only players returning to their teams don’t count against the limit.
I've said it from day one, he reminds me of a young Scottie Pippen. He's a stat stuffer and a mismatch at both ends of the floor I feel. If healthy I think he's the difference maker in winning championships and tournaments. We go to meet JJJ’s mom and step dad at the games last year. Those injuries really slowed his development, but he showed flashes of why he was so highly rated.
I’m expecting him to have a great season this year. He is a well rounded basketball player and is very unselfish. Adding players like Springer, Johnson, and Bailey to go along with Vescovi, Pons, and Fulkerson will really play in to James’s strengths.
That’s not even counting Anosike and Walker. James will do whatever is needed to make everyone around him better.
Tennessee officially began basketball practice this week though like football, there were no eyewitnesses outside of the program able to view it. We’ve heard the same kind of rumblings after the first few days that were percolating about when the team was engaged in offseason workouts. Keon Johnson continues to wow observers with not just his athleticism, but also his intensity and basketball IQ. Nothing we’ve heard in the past couple of months leads us to believe Johnson won’t be one and done. Some think that because there’s been so much buzz about Johnson that Jaden Springer isn’t living up to the hype. Springer has reportedly been as good as advertised it’s simply that Johnson has exceeded expectations.
-VQWe continue to hear that Santiago Vescovi has taken his game to another level. Competition for playing time could be fierce on the perimeter but I’d look for Johnson, Springer, Vescovi, Josiah James and Victor Bailey to all get healthy minutes. John Fulkerson and Yves Pons are not proven commodities as far as their production. We’re hearing that both have really stepped up their efforts at being leaders as the only two (returning) seniors on the team. It’s not really a natural role for either of them but we’re told that both recognize the need for them to step up as veterans and lead
-VQ.Fulkerson and Pons are proven commodities not sure what that's about, They will definitely play three guards. l think Keon starts no question. I'll be surprised if Jaden isn't a starter. Vescovi, James, Bailey in a dog fight for the other spot IMO.
All those guys will play 20+ minutes IMO or close to it. Not really an either/or situation IMO, all those guys will play a lot of minutes.
Perimeter is gonna be elite.
Bigger concern is can Anosike hold up and has Nkamhua/Plavsic progressed to the point they can be counted on.
