Team News (current roster)

Love some highlights. Things that jumped out to me: Nkamhoua is looking really good right now. Phillips has really good elevation on his jumpers and a pretty good looking shot. It certainly does seem like Key will be running PG this year, probably splitting those duties with Santi in the starting lineup. I also firmly believe Mashack will be in the rotation. He gives us something defensively that we just don't have. Essentially Ziegler with size. Looks like his offensive game might be coming around as well.

Key and BJ need to complement Vescovi at knocking down 3s. JJJ, ZZ, and Mashack don’t look too cinsistent shooting from deep. The inside looks loaded, but threats from 3 will be needed to loosen it up near the rim.

Defense will be elite no matter who is on the floor. Except ON exposed Aidoo giving up the baseline on that one burn.

Uros is a nice option to have when we face teams with freaks like Hunter Dickinson at Michigan. But anybody is going to struggle when the other team has a 7 footer filling it up from the perimeter.

The way they talk about Tyreke Key I am so freaking excited to see him play. I don’t remember which player said it but they called him a walking bucket. With the talk of ZZ starting on the bench it seems like our lineup will probably be; Vescovi-Key-James-Olivier-Plavsic. I think the post is still debatable on who will start. That lineup prediction is what I think Barnes will do. What I would do is Vescovi-Key-Phillips-James-Olivier. I think Olivier will be SOLID this year if he stays healthy. We have good depth though. Aidoo is on the fringe though. I like Plavsic but I just think Olivier and Aidoo is better.

Key is the PG over Vescovi

Phillips, Nkamhoua, Zeigler, Mashack, and Uros all stood out to me as positives.

It's an edited video of one scrimmage, so take it all with a grain of salt, I guess. JJJ looked bad, throughout, I thought. Santi looked good controlling the ball. Awaka looked raw. Aidoo had some moments, but got eaten up, defensively, a couple times. Key wasn't too noticeable, which surprised me and may be due to video editing.

Yea I try not to take much from those videos except maybe a reaction to an individual play…from reading various media reports from folks who watched the whole thing sounds like Key was really impressive. Mashack showed a more comfortable offensive game flashing a 3pt shot along with a midrange shot. Zeigler was the best player on the court for much of the day, JJ & Santi were pretty much what you’d expect. Phillips didn’t go nuts but was good, showed a nice shot, Plav ate Awaka’s lunch, Nkahmoua better than Aidoo.

Best looking guy in the video to me was Uros yet folks still putting him 3rd or 4th in the post rotation? Guess I don’t know what I’m seeing?

If it was 1983 then yeah, i'd start Uros, but it's not. He's slow, can't shoot, clogs the paint, doesn't protect the rim like a 7 footer should and can't tear the rim down.

Interesting info in this article. Barnes mentions scheduling tougher scrimmages because of the fact “we’re playing a new style this year” and want to see where they’re at. More small ball? Less small ball?

I can see us going both ways.

Zakai, SV, Key/ Phillips, JJJ and ON for a small ball line up. SV/ Key, JJJ, Phillips, ON, and Aidoo for a big lineup. This team has a lot of wiggle room for lineups.

And they're all capable shooters/ defenders which is going to be really scary.

From how Rick Barnes talked he wants us to play faster this season. If I’m remembering correctly.
