Team News (current roster)

Interesting info in this article. Barnes mentions scheduling tougher scrimmages because of the fact “we’re playing a new style this year” and want to see where they’re at. More small ball? Less small ball?

Based on the video, we were really pushing the pace. Looked like the old Phoenix Suns at times

If it was 1983 then yeah, i'd start Uros, but it's not. He's slow, can't shoot, clogs the paint, doesn't protect the rim like a 7 footer should and can't tear the rim down.
My observation and comment was only concerning what I saw in the short video, not my personal assessment of Uros’ overall game. In the video he made 3-4 good baskets IIRC and appeared to position himself well on D. Aidoo didn’t show much in the video yet I’m optimistic he can be a solid contributor this season if healthy. I’m also personally optimistic Uros can be a solid contributor this season, hopefully even more than last year. I don’t see a guy on the roster who’s not got P5 ability if developed and I don’t understand throwing shade on our guys before they’ve even played a game this year.

Can someone refresh my memory. What was Olivier's injury again last year? He looks like a completely different player in that practice video. A nice mid range jumper and looks more agile and quicker.

You think a 23 year old 7 footer who averaged .2 blocks and 4 rebounds last year is suddenly going to be good this year?

Thought BJE looked good from the practice videos I saw. I’ve never seen him play in person but looks better than I thought, has good size and a nice quick release on his jumpshot. Think he’ll end up being a really reliable three point threat in time. Barnes has clearly been impressed by him as well from his comments.

Phillips said he’s already added about 12 pounds, and Barnes reallyyy raved about how hard Phillips has been working in the weight room, constantly seeking Grant Medenwald on his own.

Nkamhoua’s jumper looks really good. Mashack looks like the lockdown defender he was billed to be, hope his offense comes around.

Couple interesting things from the interviews, players mentioned they’d been practicing some with a shorter shot clock then the 30 secs to try and get them to play faster. Barnes admitted they’d shoot just as many, probably more threes then last year. One area Barnes seems to think will very key in the success of the team will be rebounding and I couldn’t agree more. Barnes said they’d been experimenting with a five guard lineup, but it’ll of course depend mainly on if that lineup can defend enough if it’ll be employed

Can’t wait for the season, just a few weeks away

Man I'm going to miss Santi when he's gone. He's going to go down as one of my all time favorites. He's just so smooth out there.
And even he received a huge amount of hate until mid season last year. Our fan base can be bipolar for sure!

Hate to tell you this, but Uros wasn’t “bad” last year. He was a roll player, not a star of the team. We’re never going to have a lineup of 8-9 future nba players. The team is better when guys understand their role and enthusiasticly embrace that role. CRB seems to appreciate IP’s contributions as he keeps giving him playing time.

Experience in the program, added extra strength, and being coached up by this staff all adds up to some very good things for Uros in the role he will play.

He's 7'1 265 yet plays half his size. He's not good. If you're only role is to push around the other team then you're not a good basketball player. This isn't the 80's anymore.

This will be his 3rd year here. Strength has never been an issue, in fact, it's one of his strong-suits, so I'm not sure how getting stronger would benefit much.

Unless Uros has lost weight to improve is mobility and explosion or developed a jumpshot - i'm afraid he'll be the same player he's been since he enrolled in college.

1. I'm not hating on Uros

2. I'm not a "football guy". I followed the basketball program way before I cared to invest in the football program.
I wasn't specifically calling you out. Sorry you took it that way. I was saying the majority of the people who hate on Uros are football guys.

Plavsic made a couple nice baby hooks but at 3:05 he gets an offensive rebound 2 feet from the basket - he's 3 inches taller than anyone on defense - and he throws it out. We end up missing a 3 pointer. I want him to go back up with it. Dunk it if you can. Lay it in or get fouled if you can't.

Man John - nobody is saying he’s an nba prospect nor a top flight SEC player. He’s a ROLE player giving us 10-15 minutes a game. Your typically a quality poster on this forum and I tend to agree with your takes but, I’m lost as to why you can’t appreciate the 7-10 guys on the team and how they contribute to a winning program. That’s what Uros is and I for one appreciate having him in the program. We’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one. Go VOLS!

The $5 million coach thought Uros was good enough to start most games last year. He also had the best FG% and 2nd highest rebound frequency - virtually tied for 1st.

Saying that he is not good is certainly hating on him. So is posting that he has “glaring flaws”.

Barnes coached them last year to rebound and kick it out for the 3. He’s doing what he was coached to do.
