Teams that can win the NCAA Championship

For some reason I always fall in love with Nova and take them to the Final Four. This year will probably be 4 years in a row.

And from what I can remember, we could've had Jay Wright? Or is that Dixon?
Grunfeld all but begged Dickey to hire Jay Wright instead of Peterson. Yet another classic move by our basketball hating AD. Not as bad as passing in Bill Self to hire Jerry Green, but bad itself.

Yes. WVU has some good players and glaring holes. Villanova can play ball.

You can't consistently dig yourself double digit holes and expect good things to happen. It's amazing they're 19-4 with the number of games they've been down 10+ in so far.

As much as I love Wright's teams, I'm not sure how he'd do without the Philly and NYC pipeline for talent.

It could've been fun though.

They have some serious talent. Bet they're frustrating as hell to coach.

What makes you think he couldn't have gotten guys from there to Tennessee?

Seems like Nova is a lot more attractive option for those types of kids, location and tradition wise.

Villanova wasn't in very good shape when Jay took over. The reason it's an attractive place right now is the work he's done.

Save for Harris, it just seems like kids from that area tend to stay up there, or at least in the Big East.

TX and MSU can. FTs will likely doom TX. MSU will be better come late March.

I waited and waited -- and then waited a little more -- for MSU to pick it up. Then I wrote 'em off. I don't think they have it....whatever 'it' may be.

It, for MSU is healthy. They've had at least one stud out or getting his legs all season.

Scratch TX - shoot like a combo of AL and LSU.

People said that last year and they finished 2nd. There's not a team in college basketball this year as good as any of the last 3 they played in the '09 tournament.

Live by the jumpshot, die by the jumpshot. Kansas State has the same chance of winning the national title Tennessee does.

West Virginia hasn't played 40 good minutes in a game yet this year.

Villanova has been there and has the kind of clutch player in Scottie Reynolds that is required to hoist the trophy.

If Michigan State is healthy, there's no reason they can't win 6 straight.

I live in the DC area, where the Reynolds bandwagon is near capacity. I am not on it. If this team has looked like an NCAA championship team at some point this year, it was in one of the games I missed.

Michigan State wasn't doing that well when they were healthy. I have given this team more than a fair shake, and countless times they have proven to me that they are not your '08-'09 Spartans. Your '08-'09 Spartans would go on the road, win, and cover the spread. This year's team isn't even winning the games.

Tonight was a perfect exhibit as to why Villanova can win the NCAA Tournament and why West Virginia can't.

What was the 'nova/Georgetown game an example of? I'm not asking this sarcastically. Unfortunately I neither watched nor DVR'd the 'nova/wvu game, so I don't really know what to take from it. But I'd be interested in hearing what you took from the georgetown game.

Grabbing 43% of your team's missed shots is a major contributing factor. Doing it in the Big East is all the more impressive.

I agree with your second sentence, not with your first. I was all over the Spartans last year. Certainly I wasn't the only one.

Certainly looked more like one than West Virginia did. If you've got reservations about Villanova, I'd love to see your rationale for thinking the Mountaineers are championship material.

Texas is amazing. I can't remember the last time I witnessed such a striking combination of talent and futility.

What I took from the Georgetown game is that when the Hoyas play perfectly at home they are tough to beat. Nobody's going through the Big East undefeated. Villanova takes a loss, then comes out two nights later and beats a Top 15 caliber team on the road without ever being seriously threatened in the second half.
