Teams that can win the NCAA Championship

Certainly looked more like one than West Virginia did. If you've got reservations about Villanova, I'd love to see your rationale for thinking the Mountaineers are championship material.

When sizing up two relatively equal teams and asking which one is likely to have more success in the tournament, I give a little bit more weight to defense and rebounding. Reason? Defense and rebounding travel better and aren't susceptible to nerves. Also, it's tougher to shoot in an a stadium built for football...but it isn't tougher to rebound. That may sound overly simplistic but, hey, it's a reason.

And (I mentioned this in a previous post), I didn't see that game. I'm pissed that I forgot to DVR it.

Texas could be a real threat if they ever learn to shoot a free throw...Big strong and athletic...But my money is on Syracuse, Kentucky, Kansas and I really like Villanova to sneak in there.

18 years later and still bitter... Should've put a man on the ball

Nah, it wasn't because of the loss.

It was because of Christian Laettner's disrespect of beloved UK legend...uh...Aminu something or other who never fully recovered from it and thus had to be shipped off to SIU because of the incident which should have caused Laettner to have been ejected and UK would have won starting a landslide of national championships not seen since John Wooden.

UK loves Aminu. Or Hishimu. Or something.

NOW you tell me! ;)

Everything you just said is true. ;)

Actually, UK's win over Duke in '98 kind of erased all that. I don't think of it much anymore, except when CBS decides to play it in the opening intro to every game.

I think teams that could win it are Syracuse, Kansas, Michigan St., Possibly Purdue, Possibly Kentucky, Villanova, and West Virginia

Yeah the 98 game is a killer for me to think about how Duke blew that game up 18 in 2nd half.

The 92 game still is the best game I have ever seen in any sport, Ever.

I agree about the 92 game. it was probably the best game that I've ever seen.

I've heard the stomp held out by numerous UK fans as the reason why they hate Duke. It's amazing how few of them remember the name of the stompee, much less what became of him after the incident.

I was on the court in Freedom Hall during that game, playing for a state championship. It was a bit surreal, as people seemed to be cheering at random times due to monitors around the arena showing the game. When Sean Woods hit his shot, the arena erupted during a dead ball. It was pretty quiet after that.

Weird times.

Has your opinion of Villanova changed?

Nova's on a little slide and I think they have at least one more loss coming. Probably 'Cuse.

Even though WV can't beat UConn?

Do you have an unusually short memory, or were you trying to be clever? I ask in all seriousness.

I'm actually backing off WV as a team that can win it all. They can beat any team in the country on a given night because they're always gonna be able to stay within striking distance. But if you plan on winning six straight, at some point you're gonna have to score the basketball off something other than an offensive rebound.

Consider my list trimmed.

Neither, I'm saying that if West Virginia can't beat UConn on the road, then they surely won't beat Nova on the road on Senior Day.

I don't know how that would make me clever or bearing a short memory?

Villanova lost to UConn at home last week. Does this event not merit inclusion into your equation? Or did you forget that it happened?

Both teams looked like garbage. I can see UT beating either...and that's really saying something.
