I have heard several national sports writers this week comment on our loss to GA that the score does not reflect the real domination. That our loss was every bit as ugly as Oregon's. So not sure we can count on that to give us an edge there.
UGA Total Yards: 571 against Oregon, 387 against Tennessee (Most of the yards for TN were in the first half, only 72 yards in the second half - for Oregon it was about half and half)
UGA Passing Yards: 439 against Oregon, 257 against Tennessee
UGA Rushing Yards: 132 against Oregon, 94 against Tennessee
UGA Turnovers: 0 against Oregon, 2 against Tennessee
UGA First Downs: 26 against Oregon, 18 against Tennessee
Turnovers: Oregon had 2, Tennessee had 2
Penalties: Oregon had 5 for 35,
Tennessee had 9 for 55 < This was probably a large factor as it hindered the flow of the offense.
Total Yards: Oregon 313, Tennessee 289
Oregon - 87 of their yards came in the last drive before the game ended.
After the KY win folks were talking about how the TN defense shut KY down. They basically did the same thing in the second half to UGA but no one, no one wants to recognize that.
We lost because the offense was not clicking. A lot of that was self-inflicted with penalties that either disrupted our rhythm or occurred at the wrong time and stopped the drive.
I hope we get another chance at UGA and I would not want to be them if that happens.
