Ted Kennedy dead at 77

This is what it has come to. There is blind hatred at both ends and civility is almost dead for those in the middle. If this keeps up, you might as well start equating Rs and Ds with Zionists and Palestinians. If it were not for the military strength of our central government I do not think we would be a union much longer.

Ok Lincoln, force us with your bayonets to be subservient to the gov't!

:p

Top 10, you are not worried about your linebackers?

somewhat, but the only major loss from last year is follett. Williams and felder probably wouldn't have been starting this year anyway with the young guys we have. we return our entire dline (steele has that as a top-10 in the country unit) and entire secondary (8th in the country in pass defense last year and 2nd in INTs). At lb we return mohammad who was all pac-10 and led the team in tackles despite not starting last year, kendrick who tedford says could turn into his best linebacker ever, holt (a high 4 star recruit who saw good time last year), bishop (4 star guy who got decent experience last year), and young (starter from last year who now will probably be a backup). also this is our second year in the 3-4 so our guys are much more familar with it.

At Minnesota, then to Oregon before USC........... tough.

i'd hope we'd roll minnesota (if we lose you might as well write us in for 8 wins). oregon is ridiculously overrated this year and tedford owns oregon (our defense has shut them down 3 years straight). though i imagine it will be a close game anyway. if were undefeated going into SC i think we will have a pretty decent shot.

Billy Graham has an audience of 100 million in this country and the greatest evangilist who had ever walked the earth had 2.5 million.

:hi:

Doesn't even matter though. He didn't have the ear of the president which doesn't make him near as influential in policy making, and to suggest that Billy Graham was more effective in mobilizing voter turnout is ludicrous. Interweaving politics and religion was at the core of Falwell's social agenda.

Its a lot worse where I work. I am a bit surprised by the hatred.

Should it surprise any one?

People are angry at this point over every little thing about their life and it is easy to make a politician a scapegoat for every thing wrong in their world.

:good!:

Stay classy Savage. You thought Kennedy was a terrible person and I think you're a terrible person, so it all works out in the end.
Thank God, I'm a terrible person. At least I'm not one of the IDIOTS who believe the BS they've been spewing all weekend about the old lecher.

Ted's funeral is going to be worse than Paul Wellstone's when it comes to political propaganda.
It has been sickening. They've played his sorry ass up to be Mother Teresa.

I see the funeral procession made a stop in front of the Senate steps. Guess everyone wanted to offer one last prayer to government for him.

Kennedy's message was simple. He proposed an unabashed quid pro quo. Kennedy would lend Andropov a hand in dealing with President Reagan. In return, the Soviet leader would lend the Democratic Party a hand in challenging Reagan in the 1984 presidential election. "The only real potential threats to Reagan are problems of war and peace and Soviet-American relations," the memorandum stated. "These issues, according to the senator, will without a doubt become the most important of the election campaign."

Kennedy made Andropov a couple of specific offers.

First he offered to visit Moscow. "The main purpose of the meeting, according to the senator, would be to arm Soviet officials with explanations regarding problems of nuclear disarmament so they may be better prepared and more convincing during appearances in the USA." Kennedy would help the Soviets deal with Reagan by telling them how to brush up their propaganda.

Then he offered to make it possible for Andropov to sit down for a few interviews on American television. "A direct appeal ... to the American people will, without a doubt, attract a great deal of attention and interest in the country. ... If the proposal is recognized as worthy, then Kennedy and his friends will bring about suitable steps to have representatives of the largest television companies in the USA contact Y.V. Andropov for an invitation to Moscow for the interviews. ... The senator underlined the importance that this initiative should be seen as coming from the American side."

Kennedy would make certain the networks gave Andropov air time--and that they rigged the arrangement to look like honest journalism.

Kennedy's motives? "Like other rational people," the memorandum explained, "[Kennedy] is very troubled by the current state of Soviet-American relations." But that high-minded concern represented only one of Kennedy's motives.

"Tunney remarked that the senator wants to run for president in 1988," the memorandum continued. "Kennedy does not discount that during the 1984 campaign, the Democratic Party may officially turn to him to lead the fight against the Republicans and elect their candidate president."

Kennedy proved eager to deal with Andropov--the leader of the Soviet Union, a former director of the KGB and a principal mover in both the crushing of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and the suppression of the 1968 Prague Spring--at least in part to advance his own political prospects.
