I've only seen two people so far disparage Tee for choosing to stay at usc (pleasantly surprised at that: after all they disparage phil who is the other part of that nc). One of those was on another board. It is probably a safe assumption that this was a choice based upon what his family wanted. Rumor is kiff will not last at usc. Rumor is Jones may not pan out at UT either. Rumor is that Saban may want to ply his wares in the NFL again (I find that highly speculative). What kept him away other than deffering to his wife is the way things can turn ugly here if jones doesn't pan out. I have a large hateon for kiff. When the usc job came open I said tongue in cheek that we lose kiff... less than 24 hours latter he tucked tail and ran (the little fricken weasel). I'm waiting with baited breath for when usc lets him go and then you guys can rub **** in his face to your hearts content (I'm not that kind of person though).

To answer your question...... no it was not a good choice. IMO the job security at USC is rough. You don't take the #1 team in the country and go 7-6 with them and not be on the hot seat.

Congrats to Tee. That is simply a better career move at this point. It doesn't mean he doesn't love Tennessee. He has already done a lot for this university.

I think it's a better career move to stay at USC regardless of what happens with Kiffin. Sure, I would have loved to see Tee accept the offer to come back to UT, but what coach wouldn't love to have USC on their resume while developing Biletnikoff Award winners? Furthermore, Tee's resume could use a little longevity, as the longest he's been anywhere was 2 years at UK.

Bottom line: 2+ years at USC as WR coach sets him up for an OC job more than a WR job in a system that may or may not pan out in the SEC, alma mater or not.

This is purely JMO, TIFWIW. :hi:

USC was way overrated this year. I think even Lane would tell you that. IF they mess up next year, then he will be in trouble.

Even if Lane does end up fired, Saban wants Tee, so he will be just fine, imo.

Ultimately, it is a question that Tee, alone, can and did answer. I wish him the personal best while wishing to see USC lose on a weekly basis.

Doesn't matter. The way I look at this is CBJ knows what's on the line. With so many people already against his hiring he knows he has to win now. If he wants to hire Elmer Fudd as WR coach, let him. This is his a** on the line. This is his dream job, and I truly believe he wants to be here for 15 years plus. Let's see what happens, and after the season we can start to judge.

Tee chose that snake Kiffin over the chance to come home and rebuild his alma mater.

Shame...

Maybe he just choice his family's happiness over his true desires because family is the most important thing to him.

Tee statement

It was great to get an offer and have the chance to return to my alma mater," Martin said. "I wanted to see what the feeling would feel like and look in coach Jones' eyes and see what he had planned for Tennessee."

"Timing does have a lot to do with it," Martin said. "Out of respect to my current staff and players because of the hard work we've put in, I just didn't feel like the time was right to make the move. You never know what the future holds and future opportunities may be different, but my situation at USC is special."

You act as if Tee would have to draw unemployment.

So Tee didn't like the look in Jones eyes or his plan?

Did you expect him to say something different? Oh, I really love UT and hate USC but have to do what the old ball and chain says... The end of the day he isn't coming. Nothing new as volnation should be use to false hopes and let downs. I'm just along for the ride at this point. Can't really get much worse so I'm hoping for the best and trusting CBJ that he knows what he doing.

not sure - but it's definitely "telling", isn't it?

His comment about respecting his current staff and players was particularly interesting to me. I wonder where he learned that? That is certainly not something he picked up from Kiffin and Co...

Wow, well forget Tee for the time being. Kiffin bolted so why wouldn't he do the same to him? He also has a kid that lives here in Knoxville. He could see him all the time. :|

Besides an NC what has he done? Just asking. Not trying to be a punk.

Mine was actually a rhetorical question. The message that followed was probably not well constructed. The fact is that Tee no matter what he did he stood some risk of being unemployed at some point in the near future. Considering all that risk deferring to his wife was probably the best, after all he doesn't want to be unemployed in that venue.
