Tee's explanation

owell Tee made his bed, now its time for the Vols to do the dam thing win games, make everyone that said no wish they said yes,.,.,.,

If he knew that from the beginning, then why even entertain UT at this time?

I think that Kiffin used the situation as a publicity stunt. We could have used it to our advantage also, but the low characters who follow our team gave us bad publicity instead of good publicity. I'd bet that nearly every one of them never stepped onto our campus for anything other than a sporting event. It's fine for non alumni to support the team. Those who show good sportsmanship are a truly welcome part of the school, but I do wish that all the down in the mouth ignoramuses who use the university as an excuse to act ugly would stay away. We don't need them, and we don't want them.

Tee Martin to remain USC assistant - Yahoo! Sports

''At the end of the day, I am a man of my word. I promised Coach Kiffin when I was hired at USC that I had goals I wanted to accomplish here. We still have work to do here to reach those goals. I see a great future at USC with the players on our roster and the recruits we have coming in."

To bad his boss doesnt live by these same principles.

Tee turned down a rediculous offer from the vols. $400,000 over 2 yrs. He earns more than that in one year at USC. He wanted to be here but Hart/Jones did not want him here bad enough. It is pathetic that they would fly him here and not budge on salary or number of years at all.

Interviewing people you have no intention of hiring, as well as going to interviews for jobs you have no intention of taking, is just standard business practice. It happens every day in every line of business for lots of reasons. I've been on both sides of that many times. Its no big deal, folks.

Glad Tee said no, now hire Bill Bates for Special Teams coach!

Why? Bill Bates was an awful ST coach in Jacksonville. That's why one of his best friends Jack Del Rio fired his sorry ass. Why are people so obsessed with having former Tennessee players on staff? I'd much rather have someone with no ties to Tennessee who can actually coach.

money? im guessing it wasnt there. maybe a raise and an assistant position he wanted would have swayed him to come here. at least he entertained the thought and came and heard the details of what his contract would be.

Some things to consider, CBJ mentioned pursuing Tee at his presser. What's more embarassing, showing no interest in your alma mater, or at least hearing what they have to offer? I would think an outright no would have looked harsher. The way I've heard the money breakdown is UT offered a two year contract at $400,000. That's $200,000 per year. USC was already paying Tee $500,000 a year(not a raise to, but already making is what I've heard). So UT was asking him to take a $300,000 a year paycut. What sane person in the world would do that? And please don't try and claim $200,000/year here is equal to $500,000/year there. That's BS.

The sad fact is you hypocrites would only have been happy if he took the job. CBJ put him in a no win situation as soon as he brought up his name. For those living out of state, I don't see you rushing to take paycuts and move back to TN. You just want to bash someone because he didn't make the choice YOU wanted him to make. All of you claiming he embarassed UT, it's funny how I've heard more from the media about your responses(and not in a positive way) than I have about Tee deciding to stay at USC. Turn your vitriol upon each other because it is you who are embarassing UT in the public eye.

Seriously, you have become so engrossed in the soap opera in your head that you can't see reality. I hate Kiffin, but hating on Tee for honoring a committment when Kiffin didn't is just plain dumb. Do you really want someone with ties to UT to be like Kiffin? When did sinking to that level become cool? Time to let it go and move on. Tee is still a VFL. That NC ring proves it. He's done more to earn it than most of you whining about his not taking a paycut to come here.

"At the end of the day, I am a man of my word."

translation: I used my trip to UT to get a huge raise back in LA!

His name was brought by a question from the media. I don't think Jones just threw his name out there unsolicited. What should CBJs have done? "No comment."

-Where did you get your offer figures? From another thread? If UT offered 200k a year then they insulted the guy. That is less than he made his final year at UK. ($205k.) If that is the case, then the UT admin needs to be exposed, but I don't think that is the case.

And since USC doesn't publish salaries I'd like to know if anyone has any first hand info regarding $500k a year for Tee. Because I for one don't believe it.

Kiffin's salary was released in tax return info and he is making less than Butch Jones. 2.4 mil.

And that's ok but he had made that promise before he made a trip to Tenn; therefore, being a man of his word he knew before hand that he wasn't going to accept a job here. If he respects Tenn that much he could have declined the job before making a big news splash and further emberassing the Vols. IMO just more of Kiffen's media play crap

This.
